Dear Parents and Students,
Greetings at the end of an eventful week at AISC High School. This week, all HS students met and dialogued about healthy decisions with the support of Prevention Solutions specialist Stacey Wisniewski. We began the course request process with 9th, 10th and 11th graders for 2022-23. 12th graders began to plan in earnest for Graduation 2022 (May 28th!). Clubs hosted the Semester 2 Club Mela at lunch today. Report cards for Semester 1 came out today. Final preparations are on for tomorrow’s HS-sponsored Jan Jamboree. Together, apart, AISC high school, thanks to our outstanding students, families and teachers and staff, continues to thrum and flourish.

FCD Prevention Works visit January 18-21 concluded
Thank you to Prevention Solutions, prevention specialist Ms. Stacey Wisnewski (pictured below), the HS counseling team, our Health teacher Ms. Shez and our HS students for a fruitful week of information sharing and health and healthy-decision supporting dialogue.

Stacey will collect more resources that will meet the needs students and parents identified and share them with us next week, with resources to support ealthy approaches to screen time/tech use among them.
Challenge Success Survey
Each year in Semester 2, we survey students high school about their wellbeing. Every other year, we use the Challenge Success survey from Standford University to understand where students are across a wide range of wellbeing indicators. This year, our survey will take place on either February 1 or February 15, 2022. We will know the date for certain next week and I will share that information with you as soon as I can. Please see this letter with full explanation, a link to Challenge Success information, and the opt out process.
Repeat Announcement: Course Request and Registration for 2022-2023 timeline
Shortly after we return from break, we will begin the course request and registration process for the 2022-23 school year for all 9th, 10th and 11th graders. We will introduce the process in Crew on January 18th, open the course request portal in PowerSchool on January 28th and conclude the initial course request process on February 8, 2022. HS parents are invited to two coffees on January 25th to review this process. AP and IB programs will be reviewed for parents on the same day:
Jan 25 8:45-9:45 am or 5:00-6:00 pm - HS course request and registration overview with Mrs. Killmer, Mrs. Engler, Mr. Galaty and Mr. Malone
Jan 25 10:00-10:45 am or 6:15 - 7:00 pm - AP and IB program overview with AP/IB Coordinator Chris Galaty, for 8th, 9th and 10th grade parents.
HS students will be receiving similar presentations/information and will have a chance to meet with current AP and IB students to share their perspectives and answer student questions about our advanced coursework at lunch, also on January 25th. The course request and registration timeline is here.
Note: While 9th, 10th and 11th graders work on preparing for next year at AISC, 12th graders will begin their graduation preparations in a separate meeting with Mrs. Engler and Mr. Malone on Jan 18. Please be on the lookout, parents of seniors, for an invite to a planning meeting sponsored by the 12th grade PCA representative Namita Prakash on Saturday, January 29th at 10:00 am.
Repeat Announcement: Upcoming HS Parent Coffees - HS piloting a morning and an evening coffee
The High School will be piloting offering two HS Parent Coffees in Semester 2, one from 8:45-9:45 am and one from 5:00-6:00 pm. The first parent coffees are Tuesday, January 25. The focus will be course registration for 2022-23 school year. In addition, there will be an AP/IB extension to the coffee from 10:00-10:45 am and 6:15-7:00 pm on the same day. Parents of current 8th, 9th and 10th graders are the intended audience for the AP/IB coffee extension.
