Schedule for January 18 - January 28, 2022

As you know, we are currently in virtual. We will be making a week-by-week decision on when to return to in-person in the HS. Next week, January 18-21, we are virtual.  Please see Andrew’s Head’s Notes for full explanation. Please read below for details on National History Day (tonight!), Prevention Works/FCD and the start of Course Registration for 2022-23 and Graduation planning for the class of 2022!

National History Day Celebration, January 13, 2022 - 4:30 - 6:30 pm (Virtual)

Tonight, Thursday, January 13th, AISC will be hosting a virtual history day celebration so come and join us to celebrate history by enjoying some National History Day projects created by the Grade 9’s.

This year’s NHD theme is Debate and Diplomacy: Success, Failures, and Consequences, so come and see how Debate and Diplomacy played a pivotal role in events you may or may not know about and learn from students who have been working on these projects since October!!

You will have the chance to view some of these masterfully made projects through our History Day Celebration Digital Program. This digital program describes the logistics and processes of the evening, and will also be used throughout the history day celebration to help you visit each project and have a chance to view the project prior to connecting with the presenters to discuss their topic and the project they created. Happy Viewing!

Please follow the Zoom information below to attend the opening ceremony starting at 4:30 pm.

Stacey will be meeting with students throughout the week as well as offering sessions for parents and teachers. We invite you to attend one or both of the parent sessions below:

Parent Coffee Session (presentation to parents) on Tuesday January 18 at 5:00- 6:00 PM.

Repeat Announcement: Course Request and Registration for 2022-2023 timeline

Shortly after we return from break, we will begin the course request and registration process for the 2022-23 school year for all 9th, 10th and 11th graders.  We will introduce the process in Crew on January 18th, open the course request portal in PowerSchool on January 28th and conclude the initial course request process on February 8, 2022.  HS parents are invited to two coffees on January 25th to review this process.  AP and IB programs will be reviewed for parents on the same day:

  • Jan 25 8:45-9:45 am or 5:00-6:00 pm - HS course request and registration overview with Mrs. Killmer, Mrs. Engler, Mr. Galaty and Mr. Malone

  • Jan 25 10:00-10:45 am or 6:15 - 7:00 pm - AP and IB program overview with AP/IB Coordinator Chris Galaty, for 8th, 9th and 10th grade parents.

HS students will be receiving similar presentations/information and will have a chance to meet with current AP and IB students to share their perspectives and answer student questions about our advanced coursework at lunch, also on January 25th.   The course request and registration timeline is here.

Note: While 9th, 10th and 11th graders work on preparing for next year at AISC, 12th graders will begin their graduation preparations in a separate meeting with Mrs. Engler and Mr. Malone on Jan 18. More details next week for parents of 12th graders.  Please be on the lookout, parents of seniors, for an invite to a planning meeting sponsored by the 12th grade PCA representative Namita Prakash.

Repeat Announcement: Upcoming HS Parent Coffees - HS piloting a morning and an evening coffee

The High School will be piloting offering two HS Parent Coffees in Semester 2, one from 8:45-9:45 am and one from 5:00-6:00 pm.  The first parent coffees are Tuesday, January 25. The focus will be course registration for 2022-23 school year. In addition, there will be an AP/IB extension to the coffee from 10:00-10:45 am and 6:15-7:00 pm on the same day.  Parents of current 8th, 9th and 10th graders are the intended audience for the AP/IB coffee extension.

Again, welcome back and thank you for the best start possible to our Semester 2 together. Happy Pongal and enjoy the weekend.

Sincerely,

Mike Malone
