Parent Coffee Presentation
Many thanks to all of the parents who attended the High School Parent Coffee this week. At the coffee I explained our Standards Based Assessment and Reporting system. I have made a voiceover of the presentation that can be accessed here for anyone who wanted to attend the coffee but were unable to do so.
Mid-Module Progress Posted on Monday
A reminder that mid-module progress will be posted on Powerschool on Monday by 4:00 pm. As a reminder, each module clearly defines what is needed to be considered “on track” for the module by the end of week one.
Students and parents can view their attendance by clicking on “quick links” and, then, “grades and attendance.” If there is nothing listed for Thursday, August 20 or Friday, August 21, then the student is on track.
If, instead, “IE” (insufficient evidence) is listed for a course, it means the student has not met the engagement benchmark for the week. In such cases teachers will reach out to the student directly to explore how to get the student back on track.
There is no penalty for being “IE” as students can qualify for full attendance for the module by meeting that benchmark by the end of the module.
Monthly Vision for an AISC Learner Recognition
Starting in September we will resume our Vision for an AISC Learner monthly recognition. Each month we choose a different attribute from the Vision to look for examples of in the study body. Teachers nominate students from each grade level that are living the attribute in the academic classroom and, then, those nominations are shared with the entire faculty to vote on one honoree per grade level.
September will honor Thinkers, which the Vision defines as:
Thinkers are those students who examine information critically and creatively to analyze and take considered action to solve problems in the classroom. These students exercise initiative in making reasoned, ethical and data-informed decisions. Thinkers may demonstrate their thinking by being thoroughly prepared and well informed, by asking clarifying questions, by deeply engaging with the material taught in class, by considering information and ideas from multiple perspectives and thus increasing understanding.
