Hour of Code Begins Monday - A Note from Ms. Geetha
Come, Code and Conquer! The High School Coders are organizing the following workshops for the community: Bring your friends and enjoy!
Afterschool:
November 18 - Web design with Javascript, HTML, and CSS. Learn about what goes into creating a website from scratch. With the help of Code.exe's club leaders and members, both students and adults can gain a deeper understanding of the web design process and work on interesting projects.
November 21 - Robotics with Arduino. Using the power of Arduino, a single-board microcontroller, both students and adults can experience the skills necessary for integrating software and hardware. In other words, engineer robots to do cool things
Saturday:
November 23 - Saturday HS HackerthonCode Jam from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Hackathons are social coding events in which programmers of different skills come together to build and create innovative and fun projects. We will also include an educational aspect in which people can come to learn more about computer programming. If you are interested in product design, computer programming, or want to learn more about coding please join us.
Locations and refined timings will be shared and advertised closer to each event. Fill in the High School Hour of Code Form (https://tinyurl.com/aischsledhoc) to register your, and your friend's, interest and attendance.
Activities & Athletics office -- AISC Hoodies
Parents and all students are welcome to order the AISC hooded sweatshirt. This second batch will arrive before winter break. Complete this form to customize your order. Choices include zip or pullover, black or navy, name, number, size and if you want "Raptors" down one sleeve. The orders received by the end of the day on November 21st will be sent to the manufacturer.
US University Admissions Workshops - A Note from the HS Counselors
Interested in learning more about U.S. University Admissions? A Representative of the Department of Overseas Schools, Dan Warner of Lehigh University, will be at AISC on Wednesday, November 20th to share his expertise about university admissions in the United States. Please join us!

- Repeat Announcement
From Tuesday, December 10th until Friday, December 13th, students will be engaged in one of two activities during class time: revising for their paper/pen two-hour final examination or completing alternative cumulative final assessments.
As you make your winter travel plans please keep in mind that final examinations cannot be given early. Students unable to complete their examinations before the winter break will be required to complete alternative forms of the examinations starting Monday morning, January 13th at 8:15 am.
RISE Event - Tuesday, November 19 - Repeat Announcement
On Tuesday, November 19th, the high school will have an extended assembly to attend RISE at 2:30 pm. This semester’s RISE event will feature the following speakers:
Dr. Rakesh Jalali, Director, Apollo Proton Cancer Centre
Dr. Rakesh Jalali is the Medical Director and Head of Radiation Oncology at Apollo Proton Cancer Centre. He is an internationally renowned key opinion leader in Oncology, particularly known for high-precision radiotherapy techniques. Over the years, he has done path-breaking research in the field of cancer treatment, enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients and developing appropriate research models.
The Neuro-Oncology group at Tata Memorial Hospital was developed by Dr. Jalali. It is hailed as the finest such unit in India and recognized throughout the world. He was also instrumental in establishing the Indian Society of Neuro-Oncology (ISNO) in 2008. Dr. Jalali served as its founding general secretary, then its President, and now chairs its senior advisory council.
A much sought-after speaker, Dr. Jalali is widely regarded for his teaching and for providing expert guidance to various national and international scientific meetings and professional societies. He is also well known for his commitment to charity and promoting equitable cancer care for patient populations in the developing world. Dr. Jalali founded the “Brain Tumour Foundation of India,” an internationally recognized charity organization dedicated to the welfare of patients with brain tumors and their families. He has over 300 publications.
Aditi Prasad, Founder of Indian Girls Code Initiative; COO & CIO, Robotix
Aditi Prasad has a B.S.L LL.B Law degree from the Indian Law Society, India, and a master’s in Public Policy from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, NUS, Singapore.
Aditi is on a mission to inspire and educate young girls and boys to learn to code and develop real-world solutions for real-world challenges—by harnessing the power of robotics, coding, STEM & Maker-Spaces to make school education more interactive and immersive. In India, where technical degrees often lead to better jobs, Aditi is promoting educational pathways that lead to better careers and opportunities for girls. She is helping to make tech studies more approachable and fun and creating game-changers for girls in STEM.
Aditi was invited to be the Keynote Speaker at UNESCO's Policy Forum, held in Bangkok in August 2017, where she presented “Cracking the Code: Girls' Education in STEM.”
Aditi was also invited by TEDx Chennai India at its March 2018 and TEDx Mumbai India in March 2019 event to talk about the Indian Girls Code initiative.
Aditi was also honored by the government of Singapore in September 2017 to be one of 15 Young Societal leaders selected from around the world for a global leadership event.
Save the Date - Parent Coffee- Repeat Announcement
The next high school parent coffee will take place on Tuesday, November 26th at 8:45 am in the BBT. Our school psychologist, Nigel Holdsworth, will make a presentation about the school’s sexuality curriculum.
Next Early Release Wednesday - Repeat Announcement
The next Early Release Wednesday will be on November 20th. Students are expected to depart campus in a timely and organized fashion upon dismissal at 2:00 pm. For our Middle and High School students, a hot lunch will be served. Food services in the iHub will close at 1:50 pm. Please note that the iHub will be open to provide an air-conditioned waiting area until 2:40 pm in case drivers are delayed. We appreciate your patience with traffic on these days as all three sections are picking up students at the same time.

Our Air Quality Considerations and Practices are:
- We use the air quality data sourced from a variety of sources that are publicly available online. AISC is currently in the process of acquiring our own monitors for use on campus.
- School administrators will communicate to the faculty and students any need for modifications of outdoor physical activity, keeping in mind both the AQI (Air Quality Index) and the multiple other factors influencing the health and well-being of students.
- If necessary, the PE and the Athletics Departments will modify activities in order to keep heart-rates and respiration-rates low, while still providing instruction and movement opportunities for our students. Any activity will be short in duration and of minimal physical demand.
- Parents always have the right to request that their child(ren) does/do not participate in aerobic activity, or go outside for recess or classes, and under such circumstances, students will never be penalized for non-participation.
- Students exhibiting or complaining of shortness of breath or irritation in the throat are routinely sent into a building with conditioned air until they feel relief.
