Dear Students and Parents,
Math
Lab - An Update from Mr. Mano
The “Math Lab” is steadily becoming a math
support center for high school students. Every week, we see
that there are more students interested in improving/clarifying their knowledge
base and attending our Math Lab sessions. We cater to students who need help
with homework, classwork, and formative/summative assessments. We also plan on
helping IB math students to ensure that their IAs meet all the IA criteria
through peer feedback. So far, we have helped more than 65 students with more
than 10 tutors attending our sessions regularly!
Please Note 2019-2020 Calendar Change – March 23, 2020 - Make-up School Day
To make-up for the additional Diwali Holiday we observed on Monday, October 28, the Board of Directors approved Monday, March 23, 2020, calendared as a Staff Professional Day as a full school day.
Upcoming Parent Coffee - A Note from Nigel Holdsworth
The next High School
Parent Coffee will take place on Tuesday, November 26th at 8:45 am in the BBT.
Nigel Holdsworth, our school psychologist, will be hosting the coffee. Here is
a brief note from him about the content:
We know that having
conversations about sexuality are important and yet we often feel that we don’t
know the best way to go about it. In
this parent coffee, we’ll explore how we cover the broad topic of sexuality
education in high school and share ideas that will support parents in having
conversations with their own children at home.
Exam Procedures - Looking Ahead
It is
hard to believe that we are four weeks away from the end of the semester! Here
are some important dates and procedures to keep in mind.
The
last day for summative assessments is Monday, December 9th. After this date, there will be no further new material nor assessments for the remainder of the
semester.
The
final school monitored study session is on Friday, December 13th. This is the
final opportunity for students to retake assessments in semester one.
Teachers
will use class time from December 10 - 13 for one of two functions: (1) to
engage students with alternative semester exams such as practical, project or
portfolio-based assessments or (2) to review material in preparation for
paper/pencil exams the following week.
Paper/pencil
exams will run from December 16 - 20 as per this schedule. Students are only required to be on
campus for their scheduled exams. As such, they are able to leave early or
arrive late as per their personal exam schedule. Families who wish for their
students to remain on campus for the full school day should alert the high
school office.
Please
note that exams cannot be given early nor can they be rescheduled. Students who
miss a paper/pencil exam for illness will sit an alternative exam on Monday,
January 13th.
Next
Early Release Wednesday
The next Early Release
Wednesday will be on December 11th Students
are expected to depart campus in a timely and organized fashion upon dismissal
at 2:00 pm. For our Middle and High School students, a hot lunch will be
served. Food services in the iHub will close at 1:50 pm. Please note that the
iHub will be open to provide an air-conditioned waiting area until 2:40 pm in
case drivers are delayed. We appreciate your patience with traffic these
days as all three sections are picking up students at the same time.
Sincerely,
Joelle Basnight
High School Principal
