Dear Students and Parents,
Congratulations to all of the
students who participated in and attended the Celebration of Learning and
CABARET!
In March we celebrated versatility. Versatile
students adapt to changing circumstances by being resourceful, willing and able
to use multiple means of meeting a challenge. A versatile student is willing to
take risks and employ new strategies when encountering the unexpected. A
versatile student balances commitments in a wide range of interest areas and
seeks new opportunities for learning, growth, and renewal.
Congratulations to:
Grade 12: Choha Kim - Choha is an incredibly
versatile student. She can help students get settled in the right spots on the
stage for band and, then, turn around and be a dedicated and equal participant
when the curtain goes up. In addition, she is a talented and thoughtful
visual artist, as well as an all-around strong academic student.
Grade 11: Trevor Bridgeland - Trevor seeks new
opportunities and learns from the challenges that arise. He is willing to go
outside of his comfort zone in order to try something new or to learn more
about an area of interest. This has allowed him to improve his critical
thinking skills and to grow as a person and student.
Grade 10: Max Jacobson - Max is an exemplar of
versatility. He can master a wide range of hilarious accents on the stage. He
creates visual artwork with thought provoking and personally relevant
connections. Add in his solid academic performance, love of the Star Wars
universe, not to mention his NHD awards, and Max epitomizes versatility.
Grade 9: Sangjun Lee - Sanjun is a true
Renaissance student. The construction of his NHD giant camera is an example of
his skills in engineering, design, art, and history. His saxophone solos on
stage at the All School Concert brought the audience to their feet. Is there
nothing that Sangjun can't do when he sets his mind (and awesome hair) to it?

Early Release Wednesday Right After Spring Break
The next Early Release
Wednesday will be on April 3rd. Students are expected to depart campus in a
timely and organized fashion upon dismissal at 2:00 pm unless participating in
the Wellness Summit. We appreciate your patience with traffic on these days as
all three sections are picking up students at the same time. In preparation,
please plan on allowing longer time for entry and exit to the school at release
time. For our Middle and High School students, a hot lunch will be served.
Please note that the iHub will be open to provide an air-conditioned waiting
space until 2:40 pm in case drivers are delayed. Food services in the iHub will
close at 1:50 pm.
Second
Semester Final Exam Schedules - A Note from Mr. Malone
The second-semester exams for
grade 12 students will take place on May 16th and 17th.
The second-semester exams for
grades 9 - 11 will take place from May 27th until May 31st.
The exam schedules can be
found
here. Please note that we do not give exams early for
any reason and we also cannot allow students to take or make-up exams after
Saturday, June 1st.

Message from the Counselors
AISC
High School Literary Festival
Smita Sahay will be the
writer in residence, supporting workshops and talks throughout the HS the week
of April 2-April 5 for AISC’s first High School Literary Festival.
Ms. Sahay is the
associate editor of Veils, Halos & Shackles: International Poetry on the
Oppression and Empowerment of Women, the founding co-editor of Usawa Literary
Review, a semiannual online feminist literary magazine, and the poetry
editor of Speak The Magazine, a Seattle based social, literary and art print
magazine. Her writings have appeared in
a variety of publications and she has read at festivals such as the
Kalaghoda Arts Festival, Prakriti Poetry Festival, PEN at Prithvi, 100 Thousand
Poets for Change among others. Smita teaches creative writing at Whistling
Woods International and elsewhere.
HS students and 8th grade
students have been invited to an intensive student workshop on Wednesday, April
3rd, from 2:30 to 5 pm. Ms. Sahay and creative writing teacher Mr. Hassler
will provide an opportunity to develop a favorite excerpt, poem or dramatic
read into a performance.
Friday is a public
celebration in the I-Hub to culminate Ms. Sahay’s visit to AISC. It will begin
with her reading from her own works, followed by magnificent performances by
our very own students!! Due to the adult content of some of the work, this
performance is only for HS students, mature MS students, faculty, staff and parents.
The content will be inappropriate for younger students.

Reminder
- Last Chance to Change Course Registration Requests
About 30% of the student body
held on to their registration verification forms to make changes to their
course requests for next year. All such changes are due to the high school
office by 12:30 pm on Monday, April 1st. No changes will be made after that
time. The next opportunity to make a schedule change will be in late May/early
June pending space available.
