Yearbook Photos - a Note from Ms. Sunita
Our yearbook photos are
coming up soon! Mark your calendar for August 21-24. Our process for ordering
photos will be slightly different this year.
High School students who
would like to order photographs need to pick up an order envelope from HS
Office, before 21st August. Students should note which photo package and sizes
they would like to order.
Students should have the
exact amount of their order as no change can be given. Students should bring
their order envelopes with them on the day they get their photo taken.

School students is as follows. Please note that seniors should dress more
formally in black and white.

MAP Testing Beginning Monday August 27 -A Note from Mr. Malone
Measure of Academic
Progress (MAP) testing for all 9th and 10th graders will be from Monday, August
27 through Thursday, August 3Oth, with makeup tests on Friday, August 31st.
Students will be assessed on Language, Science, Reading and Mathematics
for approximately 75 minutes each day.
Subject teachers will be present to support each student's best effort.
MAP tests, which all
students from 3rd through 10th grade take in the beginning and end of each
school year, help us understand the growth in our students and the success of
our programs in comparison to US and international schools. Teachers can
use MAP results to differentiate instruction and understand growth over time.
Please support your 9th
or 10th grader to get good sleep and nutrition next week so that they can show
what they know, and give us more useful information to understand and respond
to their learning profile.
Discover India - A Note from Mr. McFarland
Discover India trips are
just five weeks away! Next Tuesday the trip groups will meet and review
important details including any important equipment necessary and the trip plans.
Standards Based Assessment and Reporting -
Repeat Announcement
As you
may recall, we are completing the process of implementing Standards Based
Assessment and Reporting in the High School this year. Students were introduced
to our reporting structure on the first day of school and will continue to
learn more about the process in their individual courses.
Parents
are invited to an overview presentation on Tuesday, August 21st at either 8:45
am or 4:00 pm in the Hall of Light (please note change of venue). The
presentation will be followed by time for questions and answers.
More
information about our reporting strands can be found on page 47 of the High School Handbook as well as in this document. Strand and Holistic Rubrics specific to
each class can be found linked to the course syllabus. All syllabi are up to
date and can be found here.
Students
will receive regular informal feedback from teachers in class in the form of
verbal comments as well as written feedback on small assignments (eg: exit
tickets, short quizzes). At least once before each summative assessment
students will also received formal feedback on a more comprehensive formative
assessment. Formative assessments are assessments for learning and are meant
for students to identify their strengths and areas of growth without the
pressure of submitting an assessment for a mark that will inform their final
score. Finally, 4 - 6 times per semester, students will complete summative
assessments (an assessment of their learning at specific point in time). Such
assessments will provide data to teachers for determining the final score of
the student. Additional information about feedback to students can be found on
page 54 of the High School Handbook.
