Dear
Students and Parents,
Please
join me in welcoming back all of our MUN students!
Many
thanks to Robert, Katie, Ashira, Kavya R, Kavya G, Esben, Justin and Uday for
serving on an AP/IB informational panel for students on Wednesday!
Please
note that we will follow up directly with any students travelling for MUN who
have missed the various registration presentations this week.
Meet Josiah Laposky
Mr. Josiah Laposky has
joined AISC as a High School Counselor this year. Josiah, originally from a
small town in Minnesota, has lived in a variety of places around the world
including Ecuador, Mexico and Egypt. Josiah loves listening to students and
helping them meet with success both inside and outside the classroom and is
excited to continue building relationships with families at AISC! Mr. Laposky
is proud that he has been able to help students find colleges and universities
that are good matches and that provide opportunities to meet future goals. If
Josiah could have a superpower it would be to time travel and his first stop
would be Ancient Greece and Rome! Mr. Laposky is here with his wife, Diana, who
is from Mexico and, in case you want to practice a foreign language, he is
fluent in Spanish!
Course Registration for the 2018/19 School Year - Update
Many thanks to all who
attended the AP/IB information session with Mr. Malone on Tuesday. His presentation can be found here.
The curriculum guide is
now live and can be accessed via the High School portion of the school’s
website or via this link.
Students received
information about registration on Tuesday and now have in hand their course
registration worksheet. Students have between now and February 13th to make
their initial selection of courses and collect all necessary
approvals/signatures. On February 5th and 6th teachers in all classes will be
speaking with students about the logical next course(s) in each of the
disciplines.
Rest assured that while
February 13th is a firm deadline for initial selections, students will have the
opportunity to change their course selections as they meet with counselors and
teachers over the next several weeks. We will go through a “registration
verification” process in March which will prompt students to make any desired
changes to their requests at that time. More details about the verification
process will follow when the time grows closer.
Session Two SBAR Parent Coffee
Many thanks to all of the
parents who attended the second SBAR presentation. It contained a great deal of
dense information. The presentation can be found here and an updated presentation with a voiceover will be linked next
week. The handout for the presentation can be found here along with the High School Sectional ScaleDescriptor.
In case you missed the
first session, know you watch this abridged presentation complete with voiceover.
Junior Class College Night - A Note from the
Counselors - Repeat Announcement
Please
join the High School Counselors for Junior Class College Night on Monday,
February 5th at 6:00 pm in the Madras Hall. This is an important event
for Juniors to officially kick-off the college application process. The
presentation will not be country specific. It will outline steps that students
should take to be prepared for college applications regardless of their
destination. There will be a focus on best ways to build a college list and
next steps in the application process. Mr. Laposky and Ms. McGlamery hope to
see all members of the Class of 2019 and their parents on this important
evening!
