Congratulations to all grade 9 students for their
amazing National History Day projects! Well done to all and many thanks to Mr. Gold
and Mr. McCarthy for helping the students through the process.
Finally, you may not have heard that our very own Pranav
Unni made a presentation at the Asian Technology Conference in Mathematics in
Taipei, Taiwan, in mid-December. It is an annual conference by final year
undergraduate students and professors from leading universities across the
globe to discuss ways in integrating mathematics and technology to solve
problems. Pranav (and his friend Pradyuta) were the youngest presenters on site
and talked about application in mathematics through technology for modelling
the spread of waterborne disease in networks. They wrote a few differential
equations that tracked the amount of bacteria in water to help set safety
parameters for health authorities. The two hope to make their work
available for the public in the future. Congrats Pranav!
Course Registration for the 2018/19
School Year Begins!
Believe it or not we will soon start the registration
process for next school year! The process will begin with the release of our
updated Curriculum Guide online at 4:00 pm on Monday, January 29th. The
following day students in grades 9 - 11 will attend a brief registration
assembly that will walk them through the registration process. This will
be followed by optional AP/IB informational session for students in grades 9
and 10 during lunch on Wednesday, January 31st. Teachers will begin
conferencing with students in early February to advise them regarding the next
appropriate class in each discipline.
In the meantime, please mark your calendars for an
optional AP/IB information session for Grade 9 and 10 parents with Mr. Malone
on Tuesday, January 30th from 10:00 - 11:00 am in the BBT.

Coffee
The second presentation in the series regarding next
year’s move to Standards Based Assessment and Reporting will take place on
Thursday, February 1st from 8:45 - 10:00 am in the BBT. The presentation will
explore the three achievement reporting strands, the reporting scale and give
parents a sense of how final marks will be determined. Mr. Basnight and Ms.
Daryn will be on hand to share practical examples from their classes. If you
missed the first session, which gave an overview, kindly watch this abridged presentation before the coffee.
First Semester Report Cards - Available
Today
First semester report cards, complete with course mark,
learning habits ratings and teacher comments, were available for students to
collect today after school. Electronic report cards are also accessible online
in PowerSchool.
Should you have any questions about your son/daughter’s
progress, please first have a conversation as a family and, then, reach out to
the relevant teacher as needed.
Meet Antony Rex!
Antony Rex is AISC's Food Service Manager and loves interacting with kids at school. He feels food is an integral and vital component of everyone's life and, so, it gives him immense satisfaction to work in the food industry. Antony completed his Hotel Management studies in 1997 and started with the Taj Group of Hotels. He managed airport lounges, bars and restaurants both in India and abroad. He has 20 years of experience in the industry and has enjoyed the transition to an educational environment. If Antony could have a superpower it would be to cure incurable diseases like cancer as he would love to live in a world without sickness.
Next Early Release Wednesday
A quick reminder that Wednesday, January 24th, will be our
next Early Release Wednesday. Students are expected to depart campus in a
timely and organized fashion upon dismissal at 2:00 pm. We appreciate your
patience with traffic on these days as all three sections are picking up
students at the same time. In preparation, please plan on allowing longer time
for entry and exit to the school at release time. For our Middle and High
School students, hot lunch will be served.
At the request of the student advisory forum, the iHub
will remain open until 2:30 pm as an air conditioned place for high school
students to wait for drivers. Please note that food service will continue to
close at 2:10 pm.

notes will include links to various counseling resources from summer
programming to registration to college guidance.
