Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome back to all! I hope you had a restful and enjoyable Spring Break. We now begin our final stretch before the end of the year and it is going to be a busy few months!
Please mark your calendars to attend the opening of the IB Art Exhibit: Beyond the Red Line on Monday, April 4th at 4:15 pm. Through traditional, new and non-traditional media, the emotionally charged artwork explores pressing global and social issues through the eyes, personal connections and reflections of 4 very talented AISC art students. The exhibit will remain open until April 15th.
Reminder - April 29th is a 1D Day
Course Registration for 2016/17 Closed
Just a reminder that we will be having classes on Friday, April 29th, in lieu of a holiday. We will follow the 1D rotation.
Course Registration for 2016/17 Closed
The deadline for making any changes to course requests for next year has passed. Work will now begin on building the master schedule. This process takes approximately 6 - 8 weeks and means that students will get a peek at their schedule for next year during the final week of school.
Overall registration went well and almost all but one course (Cadet Band) had enough interest expressed by students to run for next year. Please note that the fact that a course is running next year guarantees that all students requesting the course will be able to fit it into their unique schedule. As always, we do the best we can to place courses in the timetable where the greatest number of students can take them.
Save the Date - Final Parent Coffee
The final High School Parent Coffee will take place on Tuesday, April 26th in the BBT. The entire coffee will be dedicated to reporting out on the Student Lifestyle Data and answering related questions.
At Your Request - Mindfulness for Moms
After our parent coffee about Mindfulness for Teens, a number of moms asked if we could offer a series of mindfulness workshops for them as well. We are all too happy to oblige! Mark your calendars for April 28th, May 12th and May 19th from 8:45 - 9:15 am in the BBT. These sessions will be experiential in nature and will allow attendees to cultivate their own practice while offering the exercises to their children as well. Moms from all divisions are welcome to attend. Dads, of course, are welcome too!
Attention Parents of Class of 2016 - A Note from the Counseling Department
As college acceptances begin to roll in and decisions are made, it's important to look ahead to ensure that the transition to college is a successful one. Join Ms. McGlamery and Ms. Kay Clarke (parent of an AISC graduate/current college freshman) for a workshop for parents to discuss and prepare for this big change. The workshop is called: Leaving the Nest: Supporting Kids through the College Transition and it will take place on Friday, April 29th at 8:30 am in the Hall of Light.
High School Exam Schedules for Semester Two - Final Reminder
As you make your summer travel plans kindly keep in mind the end of year exam schedule. Senior exams run on May 18th and 19th while all other high school exams run from May 27th until June 2nd. Both schedules can be found here. Please note that we do not give exams early. The final day of school, June 2nd, will be a half day in which students will be able to say goodbye to friends before heading off on vacation. While attendance is not required on the final half day, students are strongly encouraged to attend.
Summer Program Information Available - From the Counseling Office
Believe it or not, it is time to start thinking about how you might spend time this summer. While summer provides a great opportunity to relax and recharge, it is also a great time to participate in an activities that will enrich you in some way. Many summer programs are available around the world for students your age and any of these programs have applications that are due earlier than you might expect. If you wait until April or May to plan, you might be too late. Check out the Counselor's Corner HS Summer Enrichment Programs Page on our blog for information about summer programs.
Sincerely,
Joelle Basnight
