Dear Parents,
Spring
Break has arrived and students and teachers alike are looking forward to some
time to relax and unwind before the last push to the end of the school year. We
have had a very busy month filled with exciting events that have highlighted
the talents and skills of our students, along with IB internal assessments and
professional development for our faculty. Now it is time to pause and enjoy a bit of unstructured time. It’s a perfect opportunity for all of us to unplug the
electronic device, spend time with family and friends, and rest up for the
final busy quarter of the school year.
Encourage your child to find and read a good book. It’s a great way to relax almost anywhere and, as much research has shown, reading for pleasure is one of the best ways to build language skills, from grammar and spelling to comprehension.

High School Parent Coffees – On Wednesday our high school
IT teachers, Ms. J.S. Lakshmi and Mrs. Geetha Venugopal, shared our plans and
recent successes with the redesigned high school IT course, to be called
ILearnIT. They were joined by three students, Amelia and Maddie Holly and Dafne
Mistrangelo, who are currently in the beta version of the class.
The course
they described is well designed to help our students develop skills they will
need to be able to learn new IT applications that we can’t even imagine. The
students are also learning how to work with real clients, such as classroom
teachers and NGO administrators, to determine the clients’ needs and then
develop project outcomes and timelines. We’re very excited about this course
and its potential to prepare our students for real life in the 21st
century.
At our next HS Parent coffee on May 8 Mrs. Callaway will discuss
our plans for a comprehensive student well-being program for next year. I hope
you will join us for that meeting.
IB and AP Exams – IB and AP exams will be coming
up sooner than we think. Shortly after Spring Break we will hold mock exams
designed to give our students a taste of actual exam conditions. These will be
followed by the actual exams that take place from May 2 through May 24.
It’s a
busy time with much going on. Be sure to check the information from the IB and
AP Coordinators that is posted each week at IB Diploma Program and Advanced Placement There is also valuable information on the IB and AP Moodle pages.
Report cards – The third quarter ended last
Friday and teachers have completed their grades and comments. Report cards will
be sent home on Friday, April 12. Student and Parent access to Skyward will resume on April 8.
Departing students – Each year some of our students
leave the school. Records from AISC are usually required by the next school.
However, it takes us some time to prepare these records. If you will be leaving
the school, please contact us as soon as possible so we can prepare the
necessary documents to make your transition as smooth as possible. Final report
cards and transcripts will be available for 12th Grade students by
Friday, June 1. Final report cards will be available for 9th, 10th
and 11th grade students by Friday, June 15.
