Dear Parents,
Last week
I mentioned the NHS beach cleanup at Fish Cove. On Saturday, March 9 the group went
again to clean up more of the beach. While participation was a little lower due
to the SAISA tournaments, there was still a good turnout. Many thanks to NHS
members Sruti Raja and Arjun Anand and their advisors, Manoharan Krishnan and
Mark Lueders, for their efforts to organize this service event. Thanks are also
due to senior Dhanush Harigovind Singh, who played a pivotal role in bringing
the Bay of Life surf school, the Taj Vivanta staff and the AISC students
together in this effort.
SAISA Sports weekend – We had a wonderful soccer tournament last weekend thanks to the efforts of Athletic Director Elizabeth Davenport, her assistant Sally Victor and the AISC facilities crew. The players and teams from the other schools were very appreciative of our facility and our hospitality. A special thanks to all of the families who hosted the visiting players. The SAISA tournaments are a wonderful opportunity for students to engage in friendly competition and make new friends in distant places. It wouldn't happen without the support of our community. thank you!
We some ups and some downs
in the SAISA competitions. Our Girls Soccer team placed 3rd,
our Boys Basketball placed 7th (even after winning several tough
games against the top teams) and our Track and Field teams earned a number of
first place ribbons in their meet in Colombo. I learned yesterday that our
Badminton team has taken the team championship at their tournament and that
they are now playing for individual honors. Go Raptors!
Skyward gradebook access - Student and parent access to Skyward gradebooks will be closed from Wed., March 13 through Sunday, April 7 to allow teachers to determine Quarter 3 grades and write comments.
High School Parent Coffees – We had a good meeting last
Monday with a somewhat smaller group of parents to discuss recent faculty
deliberations regarding academic awards and to talk about the graduation
ceremony on June 1. I received some good feedback that I will share with the
faculty at our next meeting.
Next
week we will meet once again, this time on Wednesday, March 20. Our high school
IT teachers, J.S. Lakshmi and Geetha Venugopal, will be on hand with some of
their students to share our plans and recent successes with the redesigned high
school IT course, to be called ILearnIT. It’s an exciting shift to a
project-based format involving real-world projects for real-world clients. I
hope you will be able to join us for that meeting.
IB and AP Exams – IB and AP exams will be coming
up sooner than we think. Shortly after Spring Break we will hold mock exams designed
to give our students a taste of actual exam conditions. These will be followed
by the actual exams that take place from May 2 through May 24. It’s a busy time
with much going on. Be sure to check the information from the IB and AP
