Parent Coffee: Challenge Success results and Managing Transitions

Parents, please join us for our first in-person morning coffee on Tuesday, April 26th at 8:45- 9:45 in Madras Hall. A virtual ONLY option is also available from 5:00-6:00 pm, please find the zoom link here .

The first part of the meeting will be highlighting the survey results from the Challenge Success Survey taken this spring. The survey looks at students’ reported experiences regarding the following areas: Health and Stress; Sleep; Academic Integrity; Engagement and Support in School; Homework/Workload; Grades; Extracurriculars; and Parent Expectations.

The second part of the meeting will focus on managing Transitions. We will be discussing a strategy/format that was shared with students last week to help successfully navigate the transitions we experience in our lives.

If you plan to attend the in-person HS Parent Coffee from 8:45-9:45 am:  Parents who have uploaded their vaccination information via this link, will just need to show their ID and sign the form at the entry. Those who have not uploaded their vaccination information will need to show it at the gate or have a negative RT-PCR report from the past 72 hours.

Pride Week April 25-29

The Gender and Sexuality Alliance Club (GSA) is proud to sponsor AISC’s first ever PRIDE Celebration! PRIDE Week is a project put together by student leaders and members of the GSA to celebrate LGBTQ+ social and self-acceptance at AISC, and to recognize the achievements of global LGBTQ+ social movements.

The GSA strives to use PRIDE Week as a way to educate, create awareness, and foster acceptance and tolerance for the LGBTQ+ community at AISC.

If you have any questions about PRIDE Week, please contact Ms.Michele, Club Advisor.

MAP testing for 9th and 10th graders

We will be assessing 9th and 10th graders for their growth in reading, language use, math and science using the Measure of Academic Progress tests. Please view this link with a description of the MAP test and how to support your child.

IB exams begin April 28 and AP exams begin May 2, 2022

External exams begin next week. Students are excused from classes (are on study leave) during their exam session and for the half day prior to the exam. Your child has access to a study leave document detailing when they are excused from classes.

  • AP exam schedule here. AP exam takers need to arrive at school at 7:45 am for morning exams.

  • IB exam schedule here. IB exam takers need to arrive at school at 8:00 am for morning exams.

  • While AISC does have a holiday May 2nd, AP and IB exams will be held as scheduled, on campus.

Once an AP or IB exam occurs, the class ends, and your child does not need to attend that class. This class becomes a free period–with all students continuing to to attend school from 8:30-3:30.

Repeat Announcement: AISC WELLBEING UPDATE

Students from grades 3 to 12 will have the opportunity to answer age-appropriate questions relating to the AISC Wellbeing framework to support their own personal reflection and growth. This will take place in High School Crew, Middle School Advisory and Elementary School Wellbeing classes in late April. Once completed, students will receive a personalized report with helpful guidance and resources to explore on their own and those facilitating the process will also be available for additional guidance. To ensure your child's privacy, your child's data from this survey will not be saved and individual responses will be anonymous.

The Wellbeing framework includes four domains: Positive Relationships, Self Awareness, Self Management and Healthy Habits. As such, the questions range from nutrition to sleep patterns and recognizing emotions to appreciating family and cultural ties. These questions are short and accessible to all.

This wonderful initiative is part of the AISC Wellbeing Futures Planning process. All questions and related feedback have been developed by the EY-12 Wellbeing Council and vetted by counselors, Health/PE teachers and other health professionals. If you have any questions please feel free to email the council leads:  Shez Billett and Joelle Basnight

Repeat Announcement: Semester 2 Final Exams and Alternative Final Assessments

The schedule for semester final exams and alternative final assessments can be found here. Final exam week is Monday, May 30 - Friday, June 3.  Revision week, during which students revise for the final exams or complete alternative final assessments is Tuesday, May 24 - Friday, May 27. If a student has an alternative final assessment, they do not have a final exam in that subject during final exam week.

During exam week, students should enter school at the regular time of 8:30 am. If students have only a morning exam, they can leave campus after finishing the morning exam.  Students are expected to take all exams in-person.

To inform travel plans: HS students are not obligated to attend school after their last exam. Teachers will be present and available for any needs through 3:30 pm on Friday, June 3rd.

Semester 2 report cards will be available on Wednesday, June 8.

Have a great weekend,
