Dear Students and Parents,

Join me and sending off our SAISA Music students as they enjoy their festival in Kathmandu and welcome back ISTA theater students!

Please join me in congratulating the students honored for their academic leadership for the month of February. Leaders are:

Leaders take action and inspire others to serve and contribute positively to our interconnected world. Leaders develop a vision, plan for and act appropriately and work positively to achieve their goals. Leaders accept challenges, demonstrate courage, generate and provide motivation, include others in efforts to reach a goal.

Grade 12: Nina Kumar - Nina takes a proactive role in encouraging her classmates to perform at their best in physical education. Going further, she communicates confidently the intention of the activity to her peers. This passion has manifested into taking the lead in organizing and delivering a running club for younger athletes.

Grade 11: Manav Chakravarthy -  Manav is dedicated and organized, leading by example. He encourages everyone to work toward a common goal and gives feedback and encouragement to maintain progress. In the classroom, he works diligently with others by creating quality experiences for the group, is always prompt and prepared, and looks for ways to improve.

Grade 10: Isa Lakhchine - Isa has shown leadership in Adventure Activities by utilizing his prior camp craft skills and helping others build campfires. He leads others with his enthusiasm and zest for camping by building class morale for the up and coming overnight expedition.

Grade 9: Thea Kristensen - Thea is emerging as a leader in the classroom. She puts her skills to use in many contexts and remains positive, outgoing, thoughtful and encouraging of others in group work and in the classroom as a whole.

Next Steps with Registration

On Monday, March 18th, students will receive a “registration verification form” in their first block class. This represents the last chance for a student to change their desired courses before we build the schedule. On the 18th students are asked to do one of the following after reviewing the sheet:

  • Confirm the choices remain correct by immediately signing and returning the form to the first block teacher.
  • Indicate a typographical error (eg: registered for French 1 rather than French 2) by striking through the typo, writing in the correct course and immediately signing and returning the form to the first block teacher.
  • Making a change to a course (eg: AP Human Geography instead of AP Economics) by striking through the course to drop, writing in the course to add, collecting any relevant signatures (parent, teacher) and returning the completed form no later than 12:30 pm on Monday, April 1st.

No changes to requests will be made after 12:30 pm on April 1st as the master schedule building process will begin. The next opportunity to make a schedule change will be in late May/early June pending space available.

Next Early Release Wednesday Coming - Repeat Announcement

The next Early Release Wednesday will be on March 20th. Students are expected to depart campus in a timely and organized fashion upon dismissal at 2:00 pm unless participating in the Wellness Summit. We appreciate your patience with traffic on these days as all three sections are picking up students at the same time. In preparation, please plan on allowing longer time for entry and exit to the school at release time. For our Middle and High School students, a hot lunch will be served. Please note that the iHub will be open to provide an air-conditioned waiting space until 2:40 pm in case drivers are delayed. Food services in the iHub will close at 1:50 pm.

Summer Programs

Please note that for the remainder of the year we will share this link to summer programs at the end the Principal’s Notes. If you have any questions about whether or not a summer program makes sense to pursue, please contact one of our counselors. Additional programs and resources will be added to this list as vendors contact us.

Sincerely,

Joelle Basnight

High School Principal
