Congratulations to all of the students honored this week at our semester-end recognition assemlby. AISC has combined aspects of their various guiding documents to communicate our vision for an AISC Learner. This vision outlines the attributes we hope each student will embody before leaving AISC. Our vision is for students to be leaders, collaborators, innovators, explorers, thinkers and to be ethical, versatile, empathetic, resilient and reflective. Each semester we recognize one student per grade level in each of our disciplines that best embodies our vision in the classroom.

Exam Procedures
Exam review begins on Tuesday, December 11th. This means that no new material will be presented in classes after this point and no regular summative assessments are scheduled. Students will use class time to review for their paper/pencil exams, which start on December 17th, or they will be working with teachers to complete their alternative final summative assessments.
Exams begin on Monday, December 17th, and follow this schedule. Students who have any exams in conflict should have already made the necessary arrangements with Mr. Malone. It is our expectation that students remain in Chennai until their exams have been completed. We do not give exams early and, as such, students departing for the winter break before the end of exam week will need to complete alternative examinations before beginning school in January. We strongly advise against doing so.
During exam week students only need to be on campus when they have an exam in session. As such, the guards will allow students to come and go as they wish unless parents notify the High School Office that their student should remain on campus for the full school day.
Teachers will post office hours for the duration of exam week. This allows students to count on particular times to see their teachers with extra questions or to return materials.
Please note that marking final examinations takes time. Teachers are not required to submit their marks until we return in January. As such, students should refrain from stopping by teachers’ classrooms to ask for exam or semester marks.
Report Cards and Transfer Material Availability
Semester One Report Cards will be sent home to students on Wednesday, January 23rd. A week later the reports will be available for download online.
Families who are transitioning to a new school at the semester can collect all report cards and transfer documentation from January 23rd onwards.
Semester Two Drop/Add Period
Students wishing to make a change to their second semester schedule should see their counselor during exam week.
The official drop/add period for semester two is the first six full days of classes (January 16 until January 23 at 2:00 pm). After this date, no schedule changes can be made.
This week the HS counselors hosted a visit from Kelly Walter, Vice President of Enrollment and Dean of Admissions at Boston University, representing the Department of Overseas Schools. Kelly facilitated workshops for parents and students to support their understanding of the holistic admissions process at highly selective universities in the USA. Her expertise provided a peek into this process from the other side! The big questions admissions teams ask when they are reviewing applications are:
Evidence provided in the college application based on the academic, social and extracurricular choices that students make in high school helps admissions counselors to answer these questions to determine if the student might be a good fit for their university. Kelly's visit validates that supporting students to research and apply to schools that are a good fit for them academically and socially is a recipe for success.

Save the Date - National History Day Celebration
AISC’s History Day Celebration is coming! This High School Social Studies event features historical exhibits, websites, documentary films, and live performances from each of our Grade 9 students. Projects will address this year’s National History Day theme: Triumph and Tragedy in History. Please join us on Friday, January 18 from 4:00-7:00 PM, starting in the BBT. All are welcome to attend!

Next Early Release Wednesday Coming - Repeat Announcement
Watch some of our community members as they talk about what Wellbeing means to them. This video was part of our kickoff to the Community Summit: Exploring the Horizons of Wellbeing that began last week.
Please join us next Wednesday for the second of three sessions, beginning at 2:30pm in the Gym. If you were not able to attend the first session, you are more than welcome for the second and/or third. Sign up here ASAP (See the Head’s Notes this week for further information).
Next Early Release Wednesday Coming - Repeat Announcement
The next Early Release Wednesday will be on December 12th. Students are expected to depart campus in a timely and organized fashion upon dismissal at 2:00 pm unless participating in the Wellness Summit. We appreciate your patience with traffic on these days as all three sections are picking up students at the same time. In preparation, please plan on allowing longer time for entry and exit to the school at release time. For our Middle and High School students, a hot lunch will be served. Please note that the iHub will be open to provide an air-conditioned waiting space until 2:40 pm in case drivers are delayed. Food services in the iHub will close at 1:50 pm.

If you have any questions about whether or not a summer program makes sense to pursue, please contact one of our counselors.
