Dear Students and Parents,
The counselors asked that I pass on their December Newsletter.
November is all about Explorers.
Explorers are those students who investigate new interests with curiosity, inquire with purpose and seek deeper understanding and fulfillment through their ground-breaking pursuits. Explorers ask probing, extending and open-ended questions, contribute their new ideas to the discussion and investigate and attempt new ways of extending their learning opportunities and sharing their findings.
Congratulations to the following honorees:
Grade 12 Junwon Choi: Junwon pursues ideas in class and not merely for the assignment. His research shows diverse thinking and broad investigation, and he is always patient and willing to share his critical process with his classmates. His collaborative discussion contributions are insightful while still connecting to others.
Grade 11 Miles Gold: Miles is incredibly open and driven by curiosity. He considers new and interesting ways of approaching tasks. He seeks to extend his learning by finding or adopting different perspectives and posing challenging questions. He is good at integrating his experiences to expand his thinking or create new paths to explore.
Grade 10 Varun Krishna: Varun is keen to fully understand issues and is constantly searching for answers. He is passionate about his interests and seeks to understand the different facets of issues. His explorations have yielded interesting ideas, which he is willing to share with others around him.
Grade 9 Pooja Viswesh: Pooja has varied interests and many talents. She's curious, bold, and not afraid to set out to try new things, even if they are tough or a little scary.
Grade 11 Miles Gold: Miles is incredibly open and driven by curiosity. He considers new and interesting ways of approaching tasks. He seeks to extend his learning by finding or adopting different perspectives and posing challenging questions. Congratulations s well to Tejas Narayan who, along with his teammates from another school in Chennai, traveled to Yale University for the World Scholars Cup Finals. He and his team came in first place, competing against 450 teams from all over the world. They were the first team from India to place first in the Junior category. Well done Tejas!
Parent Coffee Presentation
Many thanks to all of the parents who attended the Parent Coffee this week. The counselors did a great job talking about self-advocacy and how to support teens in developing such skills! Here are their slideshow and the reading that was used in the presentation.
Environmental Sustainability Advent Calendar - A Message from MUN Impact
Did you all get a chance to hear Amrita Varshi and Serin Kim, as well as Arun Krishnamurthy at the RISE event last week? If you didn't get a chance to see it, you might have missed an opportunity to be inspired to be "more than an armchair conservationist." For daily tips, on how YOU can be part of the solution, share this Advent Calendar with your family and friends and decide what actions you can take together. It will 'open' on December 1 (but don't have to wait until Saturday to start conserving water) and goes all the way to the 24th.
Next Early Release Wednesday Coming
The next Early Release Wednesday will be on December 12th. Students are expected to depart campus in a timely and organized fashion upon dismissal at 2:00 pm. We appreciate your patience with traffic on these days as all three sections are picking up students at the same time. In preparation, please plan on allowing longer time for entry and exit to the school at release time. For our Middle and High School students, a hot lunch will be served. Please note that the iHub will be open to provide an air-conditioned waiting space until 2:40 pm in case drivers are delayed. Food services in the iHub will close at 1:50 pm.
Summer Programs
Please note that for the remainder of the year we will share this link to summer programs at the end the Principal’s Notes. If you have any questions about whether or not a summer program makes sense to pursue, please contact one of our counselors. Additional programs and resources will be added to this list as vendors contact us.
