Dear Students and Parents,

Congratulations to Yunseung Park for his acceptance into the 2019 High School AMIS Honor Choir Festival in Beijing. Several of our raptors worked very hard to prepare for this highly challenging audition together with hundreds of other students from all over the world. Yunseung will proudly represent AISC as a member of the Mixed Honor Choir Ensemble. Well done and keep up the hard work!

As a follow up to last week’s Art Sustains feature, here is some additional information about their project:

Mr. Vijaykumar is a skilled artist from Chennai who has been working on several projects in the recent past including sculptures, ceramics, paintings, and most importantly pottery. After completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Ceramics, he followed his passion to become a sculptor and ultimately fell in love with throwing pots and teaching. Now his goal is to become a teacher and share his interests with others who can carry on his legacy. Unfortunately, Mr. Vijaykumar does not have a wheel and has to make his pots manually, which is not only difficult but doesn’t allow him to follow his dreams of becoming prominent of the artistic world of Chennai. He is also unable to teach classes, or have a consistent income. He needs a pottery wheel as he aspires to share his joy with others by teaching classes and showing off his brilliant pieces at galas and public forums. Art Sustains is now selling diyas, plates, and bags to support Mr. Vijaykumar by purchasing a new wheel for him in order to pursue his artistic dreams!

Finally, MUN IMPACT has a new website! Check out their new website. Congratulations Serin, Umair, Sanjana, Heewon and Sam! You are one fierce looking team!

Reminder - Celebration of Learning Next Week

Please join us for this semester’s Celebration of Learning on Friday, November 16th from 3:45 - 5:00 pm in the Madras Hall. Students will host exhibits sharing some of the assessments they have accomplished so far this term. It is a great opportunity to come and learn about our education program from the students themselves!

Upcoming Parent Coffees and Focus Groups - Reminder

To collect your feedback about SBAR implementation to date, you are invited to attend the focus group corresponding to your son/daughter’s grade level. We have scheduled the groups this way as we feel that grade 12 parents may have a different need than those of underclassmen.

Grade 12 parents: 8:45 - 9:15 am - November 20th, BBT
Grade 9 - 11 parents: 9:15  - 10:00 am - November 20th, BBT

Our regularly scheduled November Parent Coffee will take place on Tuesday, November 27th, at 8:45 am in the BBT. The counselors will be leading a session requested by some parents: How to help your teen advocate for him/herself. Have you ever asked your son/daughter to “please go ask the teacher for help” only to receive a shrug or an excuse? Then this coffee will help you learn ways to approach your teen to develop self-advocacy skills for use in high school and beyond!

Wellbeing Survey - Consent Form - Repeat Announcement

We are engaging The University of Melbourne to measure the wellbeing of our students in grades 4-12, and we seek your support to allow your child/ren to participate in the survey that will be completed during discovery on Tuesday the 27th of November. This will greatly support our efforts to intentionally develop the wellbeing of our students.

Please indicate whether you consent for your child/ren to participate in the survey by responding YES or NO on the digital consent form, accessible here. An in-depth description of the survey is included in the consent form.

If you have more than one child at AISC, this digital consent form allows you to indicate consent for all of your children at once. A hard copy form is available from section offices. We ask that forms the consent form is completed by Tuesday the 20
th of November. For more information regarding the survey please get in contact with Nigel Holdsworth (School Psychologist).
