Collaborators are those students who listen carefully to others' perspectives and confidently articulate their personal viewpoints in the pursuit of common goals. These students have the ability to reflect on the contributions of others and themselves toward a goal. As a result, collaborators actively encourage others' contributions, ask questions and make suggestions that move work forward, and synthesize others' ideas with their own to create solutions.
Jordan Archer - Jordan has proven to be a strong collaborator through his ability to share his own ideas, listen to others, synthesize ideas, and then readjust his opinions based upon self reflection. He is also not only able to work with any of his peers, but makes a conscious effort to include everyone. These skills have been an essential component of his success during group work, discussions, and student led activities.
Seojin Park - Seojin has shown amazing collaboration skills in class with her peers and in MUN both with the leadership team and in her role in delegate development. She is able to work with a variety of people in diverse settings to work toward a common goal. She is especially adept at listening, synthesizing information, and encouraging her peers to achieve their best.
Yeji Han - Yeji is a collaborator of the highest order. She listens carefully to others and very positively supports them, both with her body language and kind expression, but more importantly, with her words that support and add to the other students’ remarks. Yeji is patient, intuitive and encouraging--she always enters discussion with an eye on expanding what others say, always building up what other students have spoken.
Oscar Harrison - Oscar can work with any student in the room and engages himself to draw out participation from even the most reluctant of collaborators. He puts ideas on the table and also modifies his own ideas based on discussion and collaboration. He'll share his ideas to the whole class, and openly accepts feedback and self-corrects as needed. He's friendly to everyone and treats every individual with respect and good humor.
High School Celebration of Learning Coming Soon
A reminder that the first semester Celebration of Learning will take place on Friday, November 17th from 3:45 - 5:00 pm in the BBT and Madras Hall. What is a Celebration of Learning? It is a learning fair in which students from different classes highlight the work they are doing in school by hosting interactive learning booths. Here are some booths to expect!
- How do engineers apply their understanding of Newton’s laws of motion to quantify the “invisible” forces acting on all objects?
- How are exponential functions relevant to us in real life?
- How can we control lighting in theater to create an emotional impact?
- How can questions be used to drive historical inquiry?
- How do we create lasting peace?
Next Early Release Wednesday
A quick reminder that Wednesday, November 8th, will be our next Early Release Wednesday. Students are expected to depart campus in a timely and organized fashion upon dismissal at 2:00 pm. We appreciate your patience with traffic on these days as all three sections are picking up students at the same time. In preparation, please plan on allowing longer time for entry and exit to the school at release time. For our Middle and High School students, hot lunch will be served.
Rescheduled Parent Coffee
As school was closed on Tuesday, October 31st, we will reschedule the Technology themed parent coffee to the November slot. Reminders for the coffee (on November 28th) will be circulated closer to the date.
Yearbook Pictures Ready - A Note from the HS Office
Yearbook pictures are ready for purchase. You may view the pictures via this link. Please use this Yearbook Order Form to order pictures. Instructions are on the form. Please complete the form, make payment at the cash counter and submit the form at the respective section office. The last day for orders is 15th November 2017. Prints will be ready for pick up after 11 December 2017. If you have any questions about the ordering process, please contact the HS/MS office.
Semester One Exam Schedule - A Note from Mr. Malone - Repeat Announcement
A reminder that the last nine days of the semester, December 11 - 21, is dedicated to a period of revision for and completion final assessments in all classes. From December 11th until the 14th students will be engaged in one of two activities during class time: completing alternative cumulative assessments or revising for their paper/pen two hour final examination. Students know in which classes they will have alternative assessments and in which classes they will have written finals. The same information is reflected on this exam schedule. The formal exam period will begin on Friday, December 15th with a farewell assembly and exam study period followed by an afternoon session of examinations. The remaining exams will take place through the whole of the following week with conflict examinations scheduled on Thursday, December 21st.
As you make your winter travel plans please keep in mind the examination schedule as AISC does not give examinations early. Students unable to complete their examinations before the winter break due to early travel plans will be required to complete alternative forms of the examinations before beginning classes in January.
A Note from Counseling - Korean University Information - Repeat Announcement
During Discovery India week, Ms. Basnight and Mr. Laposky had an opportunity to travel to Korea to meet with AISC alumni and also visit Korean universities. We came away with new insights and information about program offerings, the application process, and admission requirements at Korean universities, as well as a greater understanding of the Korean culture. Mr. Laposky will provide an overview of the trip during the KPA meeting on January 23rd from 2:30 to 3:30. This meeting will also include course registration tips, so it will be beneficial for parents of younger students (8th, 9th, and 10th grade) as well. One of our findings was that Korean universities have many tremendous opportunities for non-Korean students as well, so all parents are invited to attend! We hope to see you there!
