Dear Students and Parents,
May and June are about reflective and innovation students! Please join me in congratulating the honorees.
Reflective students take the time to think about their goals, their learning and their growth in order to develop and sustain their lifelong learning. Reflective students wonder why and consider how, plan self- and community improvement, seek feedback and apply it. Reflective students seek to understand the connections between goals, efforts and results in their and others' experiences. Reflective students examine and review their own ideas and actions in relation to the world and consider their interdependence and impact on others.
Fabian Lange - Fabian demonstrates that he is a reflective student in all that he does. His decision to pursue a highly sought after apprenticeship program post-high school came as a result of careful research and preparation to identify a best fit where he could combine his innovative nature with his technical skills to pursue something he loves. Fabian displays understated elegance in his approach to all that he undertakes. He demonstrates deep intention in his work and communication and consistently supports his growth through thoughtful response to feedback and a desire to continue learning. The maturity he demonstrates in his work, his actions and interactions clearly demonstrate his reflective vision.
Uday Saharia - Uday is consistently reflective, whether it be through his academic coursework or activities he has developed and is continuously improving upon, he strives to improve in order to have a greater impact on his learning, others and the world around him.
JiWon Lee - JiWon is consistently engaged in the learning process. She reflects on where is in the learning process by asking questions for understanding in order to identify next steps. She has a growth mind set and exhibits this with seeking feedback and applying it.
Sohyun Park - Sohyun actively seeks feedback and is always reflecting on her work. What is remarkable about her, though, is her ability to think of her learning objectively, accurately and in great detail. She is a stellar example of someone who is a metacognitive learner.
Innovators approach challenges with confidence, and design novel solutions in the face of uncertainty and change. Innovators are creative, resourceful, open-minded and courageous, seeking new perspectives through inquiry, trial, error and feedback. Innovators demonstrate a willingness to try new things, take risks and share unique and original ideas. Innovators ask, "Why not...?" and challenge and change the status quo through their ideas and actions.
YoonSeo Oh - From her Discover India song reflecting on the 4Cs of our mission to setting a classmates poem to original music which was then turned into an entire choral score, YoonSeo is an innovator indeed!
Nikhil Rachamadugu - As an innovator, Nikhil expresses a natural curiosity about how things work. He never waits to be told how to figure something out, as he is a self directed learner and will try different solutions on his own. He is a thoughtful student, who often takes the time to listen to others. He is also working towards becoming an Eagle scout, which is not an easy task to do overseas.
Alek Mabry - Alek is extremely innovative in the way he approaches physical projects. With each project he comes back the next day after having been challenged to find a solution. He has clearly thought deeply about the project overnight and returns to apply his ideas to produce new solutions.
Karthik Narayanan - Karthik is consistently exploring different techniques in art class, and creating his own solutions to challenges. He is naturally curious, and is often applying the design thinking process to everything he creates. Recently, he made the class a "hair dryer stand". He realized that students were spending time drying their paintings (empathy), and created a stand in Engineering Design Club so they could leave their painting and go back to work on other things.

Expectations for Students During Exam Week (May 26th - June 1st)
All students are expected to attend school on Friday, May 26th as we will begin the day with a review period followed by our farewell assembly for the year. The first session of exams will take place in the afternoon and students not scheduled for an examination are able to study quietly on campus or leave campus early with parent permission.
Students are expected to be on campus only for their examinations for the remainder of the exam week. We will allow students to come and go as needed without parental permission unless a parent contacts the office indicating that a student should not be allowed to leave.
Students choosing to study on campus are expected to do so quietly and respectfully. The High School CIC will be a quiet zone during exam week while students can socialize in the iHub and HS Commons.
