Dear Parents and Students

I hope this message finds you safe, sound and dry.  Today the Leadership Team is meeting at school, assessing the situation and making plans for the future.  Mr. Hoover will communicate next steps sometime this weekend.

Recognizing the disruptions to learning brought about by the current situation, we are now working to strike a balance between the emotional well-being of students and meeting the need for all of us to move forward academically.  Understanding that all of us have experienced the last few days in different ways, teachers and counselors will be available to speak with students as we all process the thoughts and feelings brought about by this natural event.  Our goal is to finish out the semester as a community that values both compassion and excellence.

The progress report scheduled for December 11th will be delayed until December 15th at which time parents and students will be able to access whatever assessments have been marked.  All remaining grades will be added to Skyward and published as part of the official report card on January 14th.

The SAT scheduled for December 5th has been delayed until December 19th.  Ms. McGlamery will contact registered students with details.

IB Year 2 students will be given an extension on their Internal Assessments until January.  Ms. Crouch will publish an updated list of due dates by December 11th.

Finally, we will follow the regularly scheduled rotation of classes published in the community calendar through the end of term. We will not be running a formal exam session.  Instead, teachers will determine whether remaining class time is best spent covering content or, instead, completing a modified assessment for practice and feedback.  Teachers will give students feedback on any summative assessments completed through the end of the semester and marks earned on such assessments will only be counted toward a student’s average if it raises the overall mark.

After School Activities will not run on Monday even if school resumes.  We will determine what ASAs will look like for the remainder of the term once school reopens.

As we move towards returning to school, we are mindful that the rains and the flooding adversely affected many AISC support staff. Our initial AISC flood relief efforts will be directed towards these people. Please make monetary donations at the cashiers office once school reopens. We will continue to update the AISC community with new information as the situation progresses. We understand that many people have created independent fundraising efforts to support those in Chennai.  We ask that you speak with Balajee Ginjapalee, our SEVAI Coordinator, when school reopens if you wish for these efforts to be included as part of the AISC relief effort.
