Dear Students and Parents,
Our first full week of school has come to a close and, by the looks of it, everyone is ready for the weekend! It can be exhausting to get used to being back in school full time and, so, I hope everyone enjoys getting some much needed rest.
Discovery Program Update - From Mr. McFarland
This week we had our first meetings in our Discovery groups. These groups will meet throughout the year and go on our Discover India trips together. We have been uploading information to the Discovery Moodle Page for students and parents to use for more information about what is ahead. The faculty will be guiding students through our first year of this new program and most of the work will be able to be completed during the Discovery group meetings.
Grade 12 Parent Meeting - September 18th
We invite parents of the Class of 2016 Parents to the Hall of Light on Tuesday, September 18th at 8:45 am for information about Senior college applications. If you have any questions, please email Susannah McGlamery at msusannah@aisch.org.
Yearbook Photos - September 4th
Yearbook photos will be taken on September 4th for High School students. 9th, 10th and 11th grade students are able to wear whatever outfit they desire within dress code. 12th grade boys are asked to wear a white shirt, tie and black trousers. 12th grade girls are asked to wear dresses or slacks/skirt with a blouse in either all black or a white top and black bottom.
20th Anniversary All School Photo - August 20th
Please be aware that a celebratory all school photo will be taken on August 20th after our emergency drill on the field. We ask that all students wear either a blue or white shirt (school colors) on the 20th.
Student Schedule Changes Closed
Today was the final day for students to make schedule changes. From Monday onwards any additional changes will only be entertained should the teacher determine that a student is misplaced in a particular level. In such instances, both the student and his/her parents will be invited to a conference to discuss the placement and changes to a more appropriate level course will be suggested.
High School Back to School Night- August 20th - Repeat Announcement
We hope to see all parents at the upcoming Back to School Night on August 20th. Student schedules will be available for pick up from 5:30 pm onwards in the foyer near the front gate of the school. This will be followed by a short welcome presentation at 6:00 pm in the Black Box Theater. NHS student volunteers will be on duty to help you find your way around the campus. Students are welcome to attend to help with translation needs.
Classes will begin promptly at 6:20 pm and each period will run for ten minutes. As the time for each period is brief, teachers will give only a short overview of their course, share their email contact information and demonstrate where on their Moodle page additional information can be found. Kindly remember that the purpose of this evening is for parents to learn about the courses their students take in general terms. There is simply not time for teachers to answer questions about individual students. If after the evening you should have queries related to your son or daughter, kindly email the teacher for an appointment and/or request a time for a phone conversation. Thank you in advance for your help in allowing teachers to keep to their allotted class time as it will help the evening run smoothly for all involved.
UN Day Communication - From the Admissions Office
One of AISC’s amazing traditions is the celebration of UN Day. This celebration will be held on Friday, September 18, as part of United Nations International Day of Peace. Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. By aligning our UN Day Celebration with the International Day of Peace, we will celebrate our community diversity, the mission of the United Nations, and courageous concept of peace on earth.
This year, we would like to continue tradition of celebrating UN International Day of Peace in our auditorium. In preparation for flag parade, K-12 students will gather in the gymnasium and, once assembled under their respective national flag, will proceed to the auditorium for the beginning of the parade. The PK students will gather in the auditorium lobby and, upon arrival of K-12 students, will lead the school into the parade. PK students will exit the auditorium when they finish their role in the parade.
Once our K-5 students finish their role in the parade, each of them will be seated in the auditorium for this event.
Once our 6-12 students complete the parade, they will proceed downstairs and be seated in the cafeteria with live streaming of the assembly in the auditorium.
Parent Action Needed... Students will be marching under their citizenship of record as listed in Skyward, our student information system. We would like to seek information about your children’s nationality representation interest if different from what is on our records. If you would like to make a change and have your child(ren) march under a flag different from their citizenship, please kindly send this information directly to Sanja Ilić, Director of Admissions, (admissionsdirector@aisch.org). The Admissions Office will be accommodating the aforementioned requests until September 4, 2015, in order to be able to prepare additional flags in a timely manner.
