Dear Students and Parents,

This week’s assembly was all about the Simple Superstar… a al Wilbur Sargunaraj!  Wilbur shared with us a few songs, a couple of dance moves and a strong message about tolerance, learning from others and self acceptance.  Check out additional photos as well as his “otherfie” (as opposed to selfie) at his instagram page.

Congratulations to all Choir and Band students for a great performance last week… and for raising some serious money for relief in Nepal!

Changes in Recognition Wording

It is almost time for our annual recognition ceremony and I would like to take a moment to recognize the high school faculty for spending time this year re-wording our recognition language to be mission aligned.  While the spirit of last year’s recognitions are still very present, we have shifted to selecting students, one for each award for each grade level, as per the titles and definitions below.  Earlier this month students were nominated by teachers for each award before the faculty decided on the worthy recipient of each.  This year’s recognition ceremony will take place on Friday, May 22nd, at 9:45 am.   We will publish the list of selected students in next week’s notes.

The recognition for Courage and Confidence will be presented to students, one per grade level, who are willing to challenge themselves both inside and outside of the classroom. These student are open to new ideas and move into the unknown. They take risks, are resilient and advocate for what they believe in.

Recognition for Creativity will be presented to students, one per grade level, who use their knowledge, imagination and inquiry to produce new insights, products or solutions. These students are inspired to explore and expand boundaries both inside and outside of the classroom.

Recognition for Compassion will be presented to students, one per grade level, who actively care for others and the world around them, showing initiative, independence and responsibility in improving the lives of others. These students celebrate uniqueness and diversity while giving support or voice to those who are voiceless.

Recognition for International Mindedness will be presented to students, one per grade level, who respect and value others while demonstrating a strong understanding of their own cultural identity. These students actively seek to learn about local, national and global issues, show empathy for all and care for the world.

Summer Opportunities for Students

The counselors continue to maintain and add to their blog with summer opportunities for students. Families who are interested in participating in summer programs should check out the Counselor's Blog on the HS Counseling Moodle page. There is a page dedicated to summer enrichment programs which the counselors are updating as new information comes to them. If you are aware of programs that you'd like to share publicly, please email information to Ms. McGlamery or Ms. Larsen.
