Dear Students and Parents,
An official welcome back to semester two! We hope you had a great first week back in class.
Exciting Community News
Lovish Sekaran and Manasvi Dwaraknath are featured on the CNN website as part of the network’s “inspired to fight slavery” project. Students from around the world shared the work they and their school was doing to fight modern day slavery. Here is what they said:
“Here in our school, American International School Chennai, we have started a club called Global Issues Network which is a chapter based upon the international organization itself. In the club we address several issues such as poverty, education for all, global infectious diseases, and human rights.
In our middle school syllabus, modern slavery is discussed and students produce a short documentary video regarding a specific sub-topic of modern slavery such as forced labor, child trafficking, etc.
Over the summer, Manasvi and I contacted several organizations relating to the field. We were addressing the fact that we would like to help out apart from simply raising awareness and raising funds.
Many of the organizations did reply gracefully stating that as high school students, we only can play the role of raising awareness and raising funds. However, we have been actively seeking ways that we can play a larger role in fighting against modern slavery and child trafficking.”
In other news, Operation Smile’s Co-Founder, Dr. Bill Magee addressed Operation Smile club members before school on Tuesday of this week. He shared his own personal journey and that of the founding and development of Operation Smile and challenged the students to follow their passions in the years to come.
Finally, our National Honor Society (NHS) group has received mention in the NHS service project database for their work on their Beach Clean-Up initiative!

Report Cards Issued TODAY
Report cards will be sent home and available online at 3:30 pm on Friday, January 16th. Electronic copies will also be available after 4:00 pm.
FAST - Fitness and Swimming Technique
Are you a swimmer? Need a reason to get into the pool at least once a week? Would you like to work with a coach to improve your strokes to swim FAST?
Coach Donna is offering a new program next semester that will meet on Friday afternoons from 4-5pm. MS/HS Students are welcome! Watch the bulletin or see Coach Donna for more information!
Save the Date - Upcoming Winter Concert
Mr. Cary asked that we share the following announcement:
The High School Bands will perform their thematic program "Postcards from Europe" on Friday, January 23. The AISC Cadet Band, the AISC Concert Band, and our flagship ensemble, the AISC Symphonic Band, will perform a concert of the best wind band music of the 20th and 21st Centuries from and about Central and Western Europe. Let the bands take your ears on a trip through France, Hungary, Spain, and the Czech Republic! An icing-on-the-cake appearance by the AISC Jazz Band will make the evening complete. Join us at 4:00pm on Friday, January 23 for POSTCARDS FROM EUROPE.
Save the Date - Upcoming Parent Coffee!
The next High School Parent Coffee will be on Tuesday, January 27th at 8:45 am in the cafeteria. The counselors will explain the registration process for next academic year as well as give an overview of the IB and AP programs. Interested parents are invited to remain after the coffee to meet with Ms. Crouch as she explains the IB program in greater detail. While parents of seniors are welcome to attend, the information is most relevant for parents of grade 8 - 11.
Food Service Update
The highlights of the food service for the New Year 2015 are:
- Live dosa counter in the FAC cafeteria on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for lunch.
- Live wrap counter in the FAC cafeteria on Tuesdays and Thursdays for lunch.
- Live snacks counter in the I-Hub on all days from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
- The sandwich bars in the I-Hub and ES cafeteria offer chicken, tuna and vegetable options on different days of the week. You can order a soup and a sandwich combo in the I-Hub from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- We continue to offer beef and chicken options each day in our lunch menu. Fish is offered once in two weeks.
- We have several fresh juice and smoothies options in the I-Hub from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
