Parents,
Talk about
global citizens! This week we have MUN delegates returning from Istanbul, our
SAISA boys basketball team travelling to Dhaka, the girls soccer team off to
Kathmandu and our Operation Smile team participating in a mission in Kolkata. While
it is important for our students to maintain a focus on their academic pursuits
here at school, these opportunities to explore interests in global leadership,
sports and service around the world provide students with rich opportunities for
learning in a “real-time” setting. These experiences are an invaluable
complement to our academic program and are an integral part of our school,
which is why we refer to them as “co-curricular” activities.

writes from Istanbul:
Dear AISC,
The MUN team is having a beyond
wonderful time here in Istanbul Turkey. The conference got off to a great start
yesterday and students had a chance to meet and greet other delegates and
schools.
The Koc School's conference is quite unique -
rather than focusing on a theme as most conferences do, MUNDP focuses on a
region of the world: Africa. Students work together to encourage policies and
ideas that address development-related issues. Today marks the first day of
real work and our students are debating and collaborating with other
delegations to try and come to solutions to large scale problems. All in all,
we are having a great time and the kids are learning a great deal!
SAISA tournaments
The SAISA
tournaments will begin on Wednesday morning and end on Friday afternoon or
evening. Be sure to watch for messages from Athletics Director Ron Thomson
regarding the tournament schedules and live streaming of the events. You can also
check the AISC Athletics website for updates.

Once again,
a big thanks go out to all of the families who have agreed to host the SAISA
Track and Field athletes and their coaches. For the first time that I can
remember we have all of the athletes placed with families well before the start
of the meet. This generosity is essential to maintaining the spirit of SAISA
and fostering friendships and understanding among the students of the SAISA
schools.
