Dear
Parents,
I
hope you will be able to join us for a High School Parent
Seminar on Wednesday, May 2 at 10:45 a.m. in the Cafeteria. I will
share a summary of the results of the Drug Use Survey that was given to high
school students in late February, Mrs. Callaway will share some strategies for
communicating with your child about alcohol use and I will finish up with some
information about parent and student access to Skyward, our student information
database.
AISC High School in the news - During the week of April 16-20 our IB Visual Arts and AP Studio Art students presented an exhibition of their work. At the end of the week the IB candidates met with an IB examiner to discuss their work and demonstrate they had learned. Grade 11 student Samvita Ram, who writes a weekly article for the youth section of The Hindu, interviewed to two IB candidates and shared their thoughts in an excellent article this week. IB
and AP exams begin - Next week we will begin an
important month as our students who have been taking IB and AP courses begin
writing their exams. For the past several weeks they have been taking mock
exams to help give them important feedback on what know and can do, and
they have been reviewing with their teachers in preparation for the external
exams. We wish them well. If past performance at AISC is any indication, we can
expect some very strong results.
New
student email accounts - There has been a lot of work
going on over the past few months to upgrade the information technology
resources at AISC. This includes a complete redesign of the school website and
the development of new teacher web pages. These new web pages will be launched
in August for the new school year.
These resources will make extensive use of Google
applications. To help make the system work more smoothly and to facilitate
communication between students and their teachers, the school will be asking
students to use a gmail account and has assigned each student an email address
that operates within the school's network.
The
students will also be given usernames for access to the school database,
Skyward. They will alsobe able to see information such as their attendance
records and report cards. Starting in August students will also be able to view
your grades in all of your classes.
Parent access to Skyward -
Last week I sent home information on the school's student information database,
known as Skyward. This database includes information on student attendance and
access to your child's most recent report card. You can also use the database
to contact your child's teachers by email and receive daily updates on your
child's attendance. In the future, information on your child's performance in
his or her classes will also be available.
This database contains the information the school has on
file regarding your address, telephone numbers, email address and your child's
health information. Please check this information and contact the Admissions
Office should any changes be required.
You should have received an email message that contains your
Skyward username. To access Skyward, click on the following link:
You will be asked for your username and your
password. Enter your username and then click on the "Forgot Your
Login/Password?" link. You will be directed to a page that asks you for a
password. Follow the directions. Once you have completed this you will be able
to see the information that relates to your child.
Please do not hesitate to contact the High School Office if
you have any questions or have any difficulty in accessing the database.
Departing students -
Each year some of our students leave the school. Student records are usually
required by the next school. We are more than happy to assist you in your move.
However, bear in mind that it takes us some time to prepare these
records. If your family will be leaving AISC this year, please contact Ms.
Berna in the High School Office as soon as possible. We will prepare the necessary
documents to make your transition as smooth as possible. Please note that final
report cards and transcripts will be available for Grade 12students on
Friday, June 8. Final report cards and transcripts for students in Grades 9, 10
and 11 will be available on Friday, June 15.
Don't forget to check the links to
the right to catch up on more important information from the High School.
Have
a restful and enjoyable weekend.
