We hope everyone was able to attend Monday’s UN International Day of Peace assembly! It was so touching! Congratulations to the two high school speakers: Srivats Ramaswamy and Yoon Kang, as well as all of the students who announced their countries. Please enjoy some screen grabs from the event:
Each month we will highlight one student from each grade level who best embodies one of the attributes of the Vision for the AISC Learner. Teachers nominate students at the beginning of the month and, then, those nominations are recirculated for a faculty vote.
September honors Thinkers. Thinkers are:
Thinkers are those students who examine information critically and creatively to analyze and take considered action to solve problems in the classroom. These students exercise initiative in making reasoned, ethical and data-informed decisions. Thinkers may demonstrate their thinking by being thoroughly prepared and well informed, by asking clarifying questions, by deeply engaging with the material taught in class, by considering information and ideas from multiple perspectives and thus increasing understanding.
Congratulations to:
Grade 12: Yoobin Yoon - Yoobin consistently poses interesting questions, but more often shares her good thinking with the class. She has a deft way of making sharp and insightful points, but not in a way that scares or intimidates students, but rather, invites greater class participation.
Grade 11: Louisa Orye - New to AISC this year, Louisa immediately shared her thoughts with classmates from day one. She goes beyond simple criticisms of ideas and information to take her classmates to another level of thinking. She understands ideas from multiple perspectives and will evaluate her own perspective in the face of new evidence. Louisa is a deep thinker and a humble inquirer.
Grade 10: Gus Love - Gus has consistently thrown himself headfirst into the deep waters of class discussions, venturing reasoned thoughts and more importantly, offering his speculative observations even though he's not fully sure of himself. This highlights the process of thinking; it also shows the courage it takes to risk in front of the zoom lens. His engagement and fortitude are a delight to witness.
Grade 9: Karan Chakravarthy - If there is a face where you can see the wheels turning, it is Karan's. Karan ensures he understands the task 110% so that he can deeply engage with it and he is always prepared. His decisions are creative and well reasoned, delivered in a calm and interested manner.
AP Registration Information - a Note from Mr. Malone
The College Board has announced that AP Exams will be conducted in person in May 2021 and, so, invoices for the AP exams have been issued. The fee is USD 125 per exam.
Exams will cover the entire curriculum and we thank students and teachers for their dedication to completing the necessary coursework.
Note: If you want to add a self-study exam, please email Mr. Malone and Ms. Sunita with that request. Both self-study requests and invoices are due to be settled by Friday, October 23rd.
IB Registration Information - A Note from Mr. Malone
Please note that invoices will be issued after Fall Break with payment due by November 6th.
The fee per course is SGD 140 (USD100).
Theatre 2: Devised Solo Performances - A Note from Mr. Luna
The Theatre 2 class has devised original characters and storylines from a range of starting points. Using these starting points, they went through various forms of theatrical explorations (improv, monologue writing, physical exercises, lighting explorations) to create an original piece.

Arts, Sports & Activities - A Note from the Activities/Athletics Office
As ASA Season 1 is coming to an end on October 9th, please check the Athletics & Activities Blog for information on the ASA Showcase (Oct. 5-9) and to find the Virtual ASA Parent Feedback Survey. Registration for ASA Season 2 will be sent out on Friday, October 9th and the activities will begin Monday, October 19th. Email bjack@aischennai.org or dmonicka@aischennai.org with any questions.
Module Four and Fall Break - Repeat Announcement
As you know, Module Four will begin the week before Fall Break and end the week after.
Students are encouraged to meet their “on track” engagement expectations for Week One by today (Friday, September 25th), rather than allowing them to spill into vacation time.
Teachers who have synchronous classes scheduled for Monday, October 5th, will assign only light assignments in preparation for class in order to support students in taking time off to rest during Fall Break.
AP and IB courses may assign independent reading during the vacation in order to keep pace in preparation for these external exams.
