Dear Students and Parents,

Discover India is now only a week away! Your son or daughter should have all of the information he/she needs to start packing but if you have any questions, please reach out to his/her chaperone immediately!

Please also note that there will be no parent notes published on Friday, September 29th as the High School will be traveling on Discover India.

Screening of the documentary “Screenagers” - A Note from Counseling

Due to popular demand, we are happy to announce that we will be hosting a second screening for parents of the documentary film Screenagers, at a parent coffee on Thursday the 5th of October from 8:45 to 10:30 am in the Madras Hall. The film explores how screen time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance. Parents who have seen the film have said they now feel more confident and better equipped to establish balance around screen time.

Discover India - A Note from Mr. McFarland

Please note that students need the following documents turned in to participate in the Discover India trips. If your son/daughter has not already submitted them, please do so immediately.
  • Student handbook signature page turned in to the HS office.
  • The Physical Exam Form and, if necessary, an up to date Health Form turned in to the Health office. You received an email if these are missing.
  • The Overnight Field Trip form turned in to your trip staff leaders or the Athletics and Activities office.
  • For most trips, providing a copy of your passport, visa pages, residence permit, PIO card, etc. (the documents we'll need to check into a hotel) would be very helpful if turned in to your trip staff leaders or the Athletics and Activities office.

Introducing Sherilyn Billett

Sherylin (Shez) joined AISC as a PE/Health this year having recently completed her Masters degree in Education. She also holds a Bachelors degree in Human Movement and Health Studies. She has taught inside and outside the classroom for seven years working with a large range of students from all over the world - both in a formal classroom and on expedition in nature. One of the most exciting things Shez has done was to lead a climb of Kilimanjaro.  It is no surprise that she is passionate about getting students to be active by introducing to them new outdoor pursuits and by encouraging a healthy lifestyle. If she could have one superpower it would be the ability to speak to animals and mother nature. When not teaching, Shez can be found surfing, rock climbing and generally being active!

UN International Day of Peace - National Dress

We strongly encourage all students to come to school on Friday, September 22nd, in their native dress or the outfit coordinated by the relevant country coordinator.  The parade, taking place that morning, is a special time for all involved and we look forward to seeing everyone looking sharp!

Reminder - Next Early Release Wednesday

A quick reminder that Wednesday, September 27th, will be our next Early Release Wednesday. The High School will not be in session due to Discover India but please do make note if you have younger children.

Discovery Day - Coming Soon

On Friday, October 6th, the High School will suspend our usual routine so that students can participate in Discovery Day. This special event happens once per semester and attendance is required. Students have a menu of activities to choose from - from volunteering at Blue Cross to practicing mindfulness to engaging in field study off campus - and the hope is that students will get a chance to explore something different each time.

Progress Update - Mark Your Calendars

The next progress update will take place on Friday, October 6th. Grades will be as up to date as possible with all relevant information posted by 4:00 pm that afternoon.

Upcoming Parent Coffee and SAT Fair - Repeat Announcement

Please join us for a High School Parent Coffee on September 19th from 8:45-9:45 am in the BBT. Counselors will host an interactive session on Navigating the Terrain of Communicating with Teens. Parents will have an opportunity to engage in a dialogue about talking with teens about social media use, friends & relationships, stress and the like.  The coffee will be followed by an information fair with local SAT preparation providers. Parents interesting in learning more about SAT preparation are invited to stop by to visit the vendors at 9:45 am.
