Dear Students and Parents,
Please make note of the upcoming Cabaret auditions!

The PSAT - A Note from the Counseling Department

The PSAT will take place on Wednesday, November 2nd. If your student is a 10th or 11th grader and would like to take the exam, please have them stop by the high school office to sign up by September 15th. We do not believe it is necessary for students in the 9th grade to take the PSAT. However, if your student is interested in taking the exam to practice for the US National Merit Scholarship qualification, please have them sign up and we will notify of open slots after remaining 10th and 11th grade students have filled them. Students cannot qualify for the National Merit Scholarship unless they are US Citizens and a Junior in high school.

Introducing Ryan McFarland…

Mr. Ryan McFarland is one of our PE/Health teachers as well as our Discover India coordinator. Though Mr. McFarland is from upstate New York in the US, he moved to Alaska at age 20 and, after college, worked as the Director of Parks and Recreation in a small town until transitioning to teaching five years ago. Ryan is very excited by the new electives we now offer in the High School and feels great about his work when students who start out afraid of the water and able to swim by the end of term! In his spare time Ryan loves to make things, take photos and generally tinker! If Ryan were to star in a reality TV show he would choose “Alone” - a show where people are left alone in the wilderness of Canada to survive on their own. The winner of the show wins half a million dollars… and Ryan is confident he could last long enough to win the money to fund his son’s college educations!  Mr. McFarland is at AISC with his wife, Pepper McFarland who works in Middle School and his two sons, Jordan and Jacob.
