Dear Students and Parents,

During last week’s Discovery Day one group went to visit an old age home.  They had a great time!  The students put together a “microhistory” video about one of the residents.  While the time was short, it great to see the fruit of their labors.  Here is Shriya/Sohyun’s Video, KaYeon and MinJun’s Video and Aanya and Shridula’s Video.

Further, Geetha is thrilled to report the results of the Robotics Competition last Saturday. Congratulations to Kyungbo Shin and Jeongwoo Park.

Please join me in congratulating the newly inducted members of the National Honor Society: Dajeong, Robert, Vikram, Minha, Esben, Hana, Kaitlyn and Aline!

Parent Coffee Next Week!  Join us!

The next High School Parent Coffee will be on Tuesday, September 27th in the BBT.  The presentation will be about “life as an upperclassman: considering course load for college readiness.” This coffee is most appropriate for grade 8, 9 and 10 parents who want to learn how to navigate our curriculum guide and academic programs to create an academic plan that will support their student in being ready for university!  Our AP/IB Coordinator, counselors and I will present and leave plenty of time for questions.

Mid-Semester Progress Reports and Student Parent Teacher Conferences

Please note that mid-semester progress reports will be issued on Friday, September 30th.  These progress reports will include comments from teachers and will be distributed on paper to students at 3:30 pm (available online by 4:00 pm).  In preparation for this report, Skyward will be closed to families from Monday (19th) onwards.

Student/Parent/Teacher conferences will take place on Thursday, October 13th and Friday, October 14th.  We strongly encourage students to attend with their parents.  The conferences on Thursday will run from 3:45 - 6:00 pm in the gym and will be “drop in” style meaning that parents can meet briefly with teachers as they are available for informal progress discussions.  The conferences on Friday will run from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, take place in teacher’s classrooms and are by appointment.  This type of conference is more appropriate to confidential conversations.

Here is the link to book conference appointments.

Introducing Walter Basnight

Originally from North Carolina, Walter Basnight has spent the last 21 years living and working abroad.  Walter teaches Psychology and TOK at AISC and also serves as a Global Online Academy Teacher representing our school. As a history and political science major, Walter has enjoyed living in countries during times of great economic and political change.  The best part of his job comes when past students, who are now adults, contact him out of the blue to share the impact he has had on their lives. Walter loves to participate in triathlons (and has actually completed a full Ironman) and he also studies Kung Fu with a stunt double trainer while in China. If Walter could have a superpower it would be to travel back in time - he would love to see some famous musicians performing at their prime!

Next Early Release Wednesday Coming
On October 19th, we will have our next Early Release Wednesday. Students are expected to depart campus in a timely and organized fashion. We appreciate your patience with traffic on these days. In preparation, please plan on allowing longer time for entry and exit to the school at release time. For our Middle and High School students, hot lunch will be served.

Fun Night Out a Success! - A Note from the Organizers

What was the HS event in which over 60 students participated in last Friday night....  Fun Night Out Trivia Night. Students enjoyed snacks, a few hours of friendly trivia competition and prizes.  Team Datboi faced off against Leopold in the final round of the Kahoot elimination tournament which had everyone cheering for their favorite team.  Enjoy some pictures of the night's events.  The FNO Committee once again thanks all the parents and staff who supported another social night out for the HS students. Mark your calendars for the next HS FNO which will be held October 14. It will be bowling and billiards at the Grand Mall in Velachery.  Sign ups will be available next Thursday!

Sincerely,
Joelle Basnight
High School Principal
