Dear Students and Parents,
This was another exciting week for student government! 21 students ran for class coordinator and gave their speeches to their grade levels on Tuesday. Well done to all of the candidates and congratulations to the new coordinators: Hana Sivakumar, Heewon Hwang, Minha Park, Nate Malone, Hyerin An, Hyolin Song, Minseok Nam, Jungmin Kim and Yaron Ludwig.
This week marked the second NHS induction of the year. New inductees to the National Honor Society included: Jaehun Jeong, Vishal Sriram, Nathan Malone, Seoyoung Park, Yoora An, HyeRin An, Kyungho Shin, Minjae Lee, Fabian Lange, Yaron Ludwig, Yoonseo Oh and KyuSong Lee
Also this week Math Matters had their closing ceremony and celebration. Check out a wonderful video recapping their work here. Their goals as a club are to:
- Create a conducive learning environment for students to experiment and put them on their own paths to learning
- Enrich and enliven the overall learning experience of mathematics to help generate more passion for learning among underprivileged children.
- Support teachers and administrators working at underprivileged schools through external resources and tools.
Senior Week is HERE!
Please join me in congratulating our seniors. Their exams are over and they are officially on the last stretch to graduation. Monday marks the start of Senior Week and the following can be expected:
May 23/24 - Senior Retreat at the Intercontinental
May 25 - Grad Walk Parade (10:00 am); graduation rehearsal (10:30 am - 12:30 pm) and delivering thank you gifts to the support staff (12:30 - 1:30 pm)
May 27 - Senior/Faculty Lunch (11:30 am - 12:30 pm); graduation rehearsal (12:30 - 3:30 pm); processional partner run through (3:45 - 4:45 pm)
May 28 - Graduation!
Feel Free to Come Make Some NOISE!
Everyone is invited to come line the parade route of the graduates on Wednesday, May 25th. They will be dressed in their gowns and will be making some noise, so you will see/hear us coming! The parade route is as follows (+/- 2 min):
10:00 - 10:03: Each floor of the FAC
10:03 - 10:08: Past gym, iHub, administration, admissions, down the ES hall to the far ES stairs and up to the 3rd floor.
10:08 - 10:12: 3rd floor ES grade 5 hallway, grade 4 hallway, grade 6 hallway, HS science labs and world languages, MS 3rd floor to ES steps.
10:12 - 10:15: 2nd floor grade 3 hallway, grade 2 hallway to ES stairs.
10:15 - 10:18: 1st floor grades PK/KG hallway, covered play area, ES cafeteria
10:18 - 10:21: 2nd floor MS SS/LA hallway, past MS office, HS office, HS Eng/SS classrooms to Raptor's Den.
10:21 - 10:23: Past gym to FAC
Graduation Ceremony and Tickets
All members of the AISC community are invited to attend our annual graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 28th, beginning promptly at 4:00 pm. Graduates will be given both VIP and open seating tickets for their family and friends next week. Those students and parents not attending on behalf of a graduate are welcome to pick up open seating tickets anytime on Thursday or Friday (May 26th/27th).
Review Week and Semester Exams
Review for semester exams will begin on Monday, May 23rd. This means that no new material nor assessments beyond those given as an alternative to a written exam will be scheduled after this date to allow students to review material in class and at home.
Exams begin on Friday, May 27th. Students need only be on campus when they have an exam. Students choosing to remain on campus to study when not in an exam are asked to respect the needs of those around them by remaining quiet and focused when in shared spaces. Students needing a “brain break” are asked to use the outdoor spaces and/or iHub to relax and enjoy their friends. The library becomes a quiet zone once exams begin.
Students are reminded to arrive to the covered play area ten minutes before their exam begins. This will allow us to seat everyone in a timely manner. Students should leave all backpacks and valuables in their locker as the gym locker rooms will be reserved for bathroom breaks only.
Mr. Hicks will send more detailed information regarding exam procedures and expectations to student via email early next week.
AISC Robotics Competition - A Message from Ms. Welbes
On Saturday, May 28, from 9:30-4:00, students from AISC, Chellammal, and a Corporate school in Tiruvallur will participate in AISC's Robotics Competition. AISC students are coming from the elementary, middle and high school. Chellammal is a local school that is generously supported by Caterpillar, and the Corporate school in Tiruvallur is supported by Ford.
This is the final step in a journey that began in November, when these students came together to create and compete with robotics.
The three teams that won the November competition were originally slated to compete at IIT Madras in March; however, due to the floods, IIT Madras could not host the competition, and it was moved to Mumbai.
This new location proved a challenge, so AISC decided to host its own final competition with the support of Lema Labs of IIT Madras. The competition component of the activity will take place from 1-4:00pm in the ES Cafeteria on Saturday, May 28, and spectators are welcome.
Summer Program Information Available - From the Counseling Office
Believe it or not, it is time to start thinking about how you might spend time this summer. While summer provides a great opportunity to relax and recharge, it is also a great time to participate in an activities that will enrich you in some way. Many summer programs are available around the world for students your age and any of these programs have applications that are due earlier than you might expect. If you wait until April or May to plan, you might be too late. Check out the Counselor's Corner HS Summer Enrichment Programs Page on our blog for information about summer programs.
