Dear Students and Parents,
Please join me in congratulating the five students inducted into the National Honor Society this week: Hyejin Kim, Sohee Park, Uday Saharia, Kavya Gopinath and Vishnu Sriram! As you may know, National Honor Society is an organization based in the United States that recognizes students who are outstanding in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character. At AISC we invite academically qualified students to apply for membership one time per year and from those who apply, the students with the most exemplary credentials are chosen. Becoming a member of NHS is both an honor and a commitment. Below please find a picture of the current AISC chapter including the new inductees.
Mid-Semester Progress Reports Available Today
Please be aware that mid-semester progress reports were sent home this afternoon. These reports will include the grade to date in each course along with a comment from each teacher. The same reports are available online through Skyward as of 4:00 pm.
TOK Final Presentations
The AISC seniors in the IB Diploma Program would like to invite you to their final Theory of Knowledge oral presentations. These presentations, featuring “how we know what we claim,” will take place on Tuesday, October 20th from 10:00 - 11:30 am and on Wednesday, October 21st from 8:30 - 10:00 am in the Hall of Light. Please join us!

Upcoming Parent Opportunity to Meet Candidates for Director of Teaching and Learning
Parents, please join us on Tuesday morning, Oct. 20, 8:30-10:00 in the BBT to meet our three finalist candidates for the position of Director of Teaching & Learning. Parents will have the opportunity to listen to each candidate answer the same pre-selected questions following this schedule:

9:30 to 10:00 - Rebecca Caudill

Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences Next Week
Student-Parent-Teacher conferences on October 21st and 22nd. A reminder that on the 21st from 3:45 - 6:00 pm we will offer “arena style” drop in conferences in the gym from 3:45 until 6:00 pm. There is no need to make an appointment to attend these conferences. Teachers will be available for quick 5 - 10 meetings on a first come, first served basis. This style of conferencing is appropriate for non-confidential informal check-ins.
Second, on October 22nd from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm we will offer “by appointment” conferences in classrooms. These are for confidential conferences and are ten minutes in length. Conferences on Friday should be selected if parents require specific feedback on academic progress and/or if a student is struggling academically. The link to book conference appointments (found here) went live on Monday and will remain open until Wednesday, October 21st at 8:00 am. Appointment times fill up quickly so please do book soon if you wish to have this type of conference style.
In the past some parents have booked in classroom conferences on the full day only to change their minds and attend the evening before for a drop in session. The result was that some parents wishing to have in classroom conferences were unable to book appointment times that were ultimately available. If you change your mind and wish to cancel a booking for Thursday, please contact the office so the appointment time can be made available to others.
Celebration of Learning!
We are excited to announce that during Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences a number of students will participate in a Celebration of Learning in order to open the classroom experience to interested parents and students. What is a Celebration of Learning? It is a fair in which students will host 14 different booths highlighting their learning from particular classes. Each booth will display an essential question addressed in class and students will be on hand to guide you through their displayed work. For example, have you ever wondered if listening to music while studying improves your memory? Or how to identify rhetorical arguments in written texts? Or how graphical representations can tell the story of a particular data set? Now you can find out the answers to these questions and more! The Celebration of Learning will run from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm on Thursday, October 22nd in the gym. As you book your conferences, please factor in some time to visit the Celebration of Learning!
Save the Date! Upcoming Parent Coffee - Repeat Announcement
Please mark your calendars for the October High School Parent Coffee on Tuesday, October 27th at 8:45 am in the HOL. This month Donna Fava start us off talking about swimming and pool use. This will be followed by a presentation and question/answer period with our Math Department. They will talk about tiered instruction in Algebra II as well as discuss our new inquiry based Integrated Math program.
