Athlete of the Month Honors - A Note from Mr. Thomson
One of the best parts of my job as Activities and Athletic Director is presenting four of our outstanding student/athletes with the honor of being “Athlete of the Month”.
Throughout the year the coaches at AISC nominate several High School and Middle School athletes each season who have participated in the various sports going on at AISC. Being nominated is quite an honor in itself, but being chosen as an Athlete of the Month is an accomplishment which our student/athletes should be very proud of.
The recipients of the Athlete of the Month award typically demonstrate much more than just performance in their respective sports. These talented and dedicated young athletes demonstrate the characteristics that AISC holds dearly. It goes without saying that these young athletes have all been courageous as they have stepped onto the court or dove into the pool and the confidence that they exude is very apparent.
As an Athletic Director I have been able to witness numerous acts of kindness and compassion during our various SAISA and ASIAC events as I know you as fans have as well.
On behalf of the entire AISC community, we are all very proud of our Athletes of the Month for September and October, as we recognize them here.
September Athletes of the Month:
· Lin (Rin) Kamio – M.S. ASIAC Table Tennis
· Tejas Sridhar – M.S. ASIAC Badminton
· Lovishniakri Sekaran – H.S. SAISA Volleyball
· Nihaal Shah – H.S. SAISA Swimming
October Athletes of the Month:
· Diya Kumar – M.S. ASIAC Badminton
· Hee Won Hwang – M.S. ASIAC Table Tennis
· Saran De Zutter – H.S. SAISA Swimming
· Jakob Knudsen – H.S. SAISA Volleyball
Congratulations to you all. You should be very proud of your accomplishment!
Semester Exams - Reminders
As in years’ past, students are required to be on campus only during the times they have exams and, so, may arrive late or depart earlier than usual. However, students may not leave campus and, then, return, on the same day. No special documentation is required to avail of this option.
Students and parents should be aware of the following exam expectations (please note these expectations are modeled on those of the IB and AP organizations):
- Students may take only what is needed into the exam location. This may include pens, pencils, rulers and calculators. Students have been informed by their teachers what supplies are necessary.
- All electronic devices and bags must remain at the rear of the exam location. Students will be reminded of this at the start of every exam. Students may not have phones, bags or snacks with them at their desks. Water bottles are acceptable.
- Once entering the exam location students are expected to remain silent, take their seats and wait patiently for the start of the examination. Students should not open their exam papers until instructed.
- Students will be instructed to avail of five minutes of “reading time” before the exam time officially begins. This is a time for students to look through the exam, strategize in what order they will answer questions and to read all necessary passages and support materials. Students may not write, take notes or use a calculator during this time as it is for reading only.
- All exams are two hours long but students are able to submit their exam and depart the exam location after 90 minutes. However, they may not depart within the last ten minutes of the exam. This is to minimize disruption of other students wishing to work until time is called. Students are strongly encouraged to use all the time they are given in order to double check and re-read their answers.
- Once time is called exam papers will be collected. Students should remain silent until dismissed from the exam hall.
Food Service Update
At AISC, we continue to make progress in our food delivery system. On Monday, December 15, around thirty parents and a few staff will be meeting to sample and share feedback on our lunch options. The feedback from this meeting will inform TMFK’s efforts to improve our food offerings for the next semester.
- The sandwich bar which is open in the i-Hub and the ES cafeteria is doing extremely well. We offer tuna, chicken and vegetable options on different days of the week. Several students have expressed their appreciation for our sandwiches.
- We have introduced a Soup and Sandwich counter at the i-Hub. Soup and sandwich combos can be ordered from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- The i-Hub also offers several juice and smoothie options from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Our FAC Cafeteria will continue to have Dosa and Wrap counters. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are Dosa Days and Tuesdays and Thursdays are Wrap days.
- We continue to offer beef and chicken options each day in our lunch menu. Fish is offered once in two weeks.
Should you have any questions with regard to food service, please email Josephine Ronald – directorpersonnel@aisch.org.
