Parents,
The beat goes on! Our students continue
to be actively involved in a wide range of enriching experiences, some of which
help them learn more about our host country culture and others that provide
valuable lessons in leadership and organization. All of these activities
complement the learning that is taking place in the classroom and contribute to
an atmosphere of active learning across disciplines.
Horses of Ayyanar Project begins
Next
week the AISC community will celebrate our annual India Week, starting with a
performance on Monday morning of three traditional dances from Tamil
Nadu -Karagattam, Poikaal Kuddirai and Mayilaattam - at an assembly. On
Thursday the whole school will enjoy an Indian meal served in the
cafeteria.
Community Service updateThe Interact Club would like to thank all of the students who visited the village of Lattur on Saturday morning, February 8th. Interact Club members and volunteers (35 in total!) delivered over 200 books to the village school, read stories to the students, and played games with them. We wish to thank Jeremy Willette and his library staff for donating books to support their project. The National Honor Society will be conducting a Beach Clean
Up at Kovalam Beach on Saturday morning. At last count, 60 students had signed
up to participate. This event was a huge success last year and we look forward
to another rewarding experience this year, both for the environment and the
students.
School Photos
2013-2014
We
are pleased to announce the sale of photos from the January photo shoot for
those students who did not get their photos taken in August. On the AISC All School Moodle page community
members will find the order forms and links to the on-line photo albums.
Here is
process by which you can access the photos on the Moodle page and place your
order:
1. Download the School Photo Order Form from
the Moodle page.
2. Click on the set of photos you
wish to see and copy the image numbers of the photo(s) you want onto the order
form.
3. Indicate which print package
you want. Please note that the CD ROM is only available if you purchase one of
the photo packages.
4. Take the completed order form
and the correct payment to the cashier’s window near the main reception area
and pay the required amount.
Please submit
all requests for photos not later than February 28. We
anticipate that the photos will be available for pickup by March 21. Unfortunately,
due to a change in photographers we are unable to provide prints for students
whose photos were taken in August. If you have any questions about the ordering
process, please contact the Administrative Assistant of your child's school
section.
Course registration for 2014-2015
On Tuesday Ms. McGlamery shared information regarding our course registration process for next year with students and parents. The students were given copies of the High School Curriculum Guide for 2014-2015. An electronic copy of this can be found on the high school Moodle page (a link is provided in the sidebar). From February 5 through March 7 Ms.
McGlamery and Mr. Summerfield will be meeting individually with students and
their parents to plan their courses for next year and beyond. The course
selection forms will be due in the office by Friday, March 7. For more
information, see the Guidance Counseling website link in the sidebar.
Choir concert
On
Thursday, February 20 our middle and high school choirs will present a concert
to showcase the music they have been studying for the past several months. The
concert will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Theater. Please join us for this musical
treat.
Raptorthon
The High
School PE teachers, Coach Donna and myself would like to invite you to
take part in AISC's first ever Raptorthon. The Raptorthon is a
fun event that combines swimming and running. Participants will be
required to swim 150 m, run 1600 m and jump back in the pool and swim
another 150 m. You can enter the race as an individual or as a partnership
where one person swims and the other runs.
The event will
take place on **Sunday February 23rd** from 7-10 a.m. The event fee is
300 rupees per individual and 600 rupees for a partnership. The money raised
will be used to cover the cost of the event. Any remaining money will go
towards a charity. After the race is complete there will be a potluck
breakfast. Sign ups for the potluck are included on the entry form. You

Please sign
up! It promises to be a fun morning. Bring your families along to join in as
participants or to just cheer you on! This is an AISC Community Event.

School Parent Coffee
We will continue our series of informational
meetings and discussions on Tuesday, February 25. On that day Ms. McGlamery
will be sharing information about the college search and application process
here at AISC. All parents are encouraged to attend. I hope you will join us.
Student-Parent-Teacher
Conferences
Conferences are a good opportunity for
parents and students to meet with teachers to discuss the student’s progress in
his or her courses. This is the time to hear from you child how he or she is
performing and find ways to work together to increase his or her success.
Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, February 27 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and
on Friday, February 28 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Information on the online process
for scheduling conference appointments was sent home via email earlier this
week. Please don’t hesitate to contact me or the HS Administrative Assistant,
Ms. Sunita, if you have any questions.
Housing SAISA Track Athletes
As most of you are aware AISC is hosting the SAISA Track & Field Meet this year. This year there will be over 180 athletes from Bombay,Dhaka,Karachi, Kathmandu, Nepal and Muscat. We are working on housing these athletes and their coaches.
We request our community to come forward to host athletes from the visiting schools, this gives the visiting students a warm home while they participate in this tournament..
You can download the form here. Please fill in the form and return it to the Athletic Office as soon as possible. Please mention the number of kids you would like to host and whether they should be boys or girls.You can also get a hard copy of the form at our office. Thank you if you have already filled in the form and returned it to us.
