Dear Parents,
It’s been a relatively quiet week as weeks go in the high school.
We held our monthly parent coffee on Tuesday. Kim Bane, our Director of
Teaching and Learning, joined us to lead a discussion about co-teaching in the
high school. You can view her slide show and the presentations from earlier
Parent Coffees in the Parent Information folder on the High School Moodle page.
Our counselors are away this week at the Council of International
Schools Forum on International Admission and Guidance in Monaco. This is a
global gathering of university admission and recruitment officers and school
guidance counselors which offers excellent opportunities to engage in dialogue
regarding the admission process, learn about current trends in post-secondary
admission and network with one's admission and guidance colleagues. It is also a great way for our counselors to build relationships with the many college admissions officers who attend the conference.
Jan Jamboree is coming!
The Student Council has begun planning for our second annual Jan
Jamboree. This is a
fun-filled afternoon in which the high school students organize games and other
activities for the younger students. In addition to giving the high school
students the opportunity to serve the school community, it provides many
students with leadership opportunities.
Last year the Student Council restructured the way that the
proceeds from the Jan Jamboree are used. In the past, the various clubs would
raise funds, often by requesting donations, holding raffles or selling baked
goods. In order to free the clubs of the need to raise funds and allow them to
concentrate on providing direct services to those they serve, the Student
Council makes the proceeds of the Jan Jamboree available to the clubs. The
clubs are asked to submit grant proposals to the Student Council, who then
allocate a portion of the Jan Jamboree funds to them. This approach will help
our students learn how to apply for grants and will give our Student Council
members valuable experience in evaluating the proposals and managing the funds.
I hope that we will see everyone at the Jan Jamboree on January 18
from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.!

Departing students – Each
year some of our students leave the school during the school year, often at the
mid-year break. Records from AISC are usually required by the next school.
However, it takes us some time to prepare these records. If you will be leaving
the school, please contact Ms. Priya Sarath in the Counseling Office at least two weeks prior to your
departure so we can prepare the necessary documents to make your transition as
smooth as possible.
Please note that for students leaving school at the Winter Break,
we will be able to provide all required documentation, including official
report cards for Quarter 1. However, report cards and transcripts showing the
Quarter 2 and Semester grades will not be available until January. We will be
happy to forward these to you at your next destination.
That’s all for this week. Don’t forget that Wednesday, November 27
is a staff development day so there will be no classes, and Thursday and Friday
there is no school as we celebrate the American holiday of Thanksgiving. As a festival
of the harvest, it is a good time to stop and be grateful for the many
blessings we have.
