Dear Parents,
We’ve had a relatively quiet week in the high school. It is, perhaps, the calm before the storm as we look forward to Cabaret 2013, SAISA tournaments and the end of the quarter this week, Discover India the following week, UN Day activities the week after that and then Fall Break and Diwali. The beat goes on!
Each week on Tuesday morning we
have an assembly led by our Student Council. During these assemblies students
and faculty members make announcements and occasionally there is a
presentation. These weekly gatherings of the high school are important to
building a sense of belonging and cohesion among the students and faculty
through shared experiences.
This week we were treated to a
short presentation by Mr. Andrew Ranson, one of our English teachers. He gave
us a shortened version of a talk that he will be giving at a symposium, “The
Many Faces of War,” at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles this weekend.
In his talk, Mr. Ranson shared his interest in the way that soldiers
memorialize their fallen comrades with tattoos. You can read more about Mr.
Ranson’s work in the article, “Ink Tank – Memorial Tattoos,” and
on Mr. Ranson’s website, “Memorial
Ink.” It is a fascinating study.
SAISA Tournaments
Our SAISA swimmers and
volleyball players will be participating in their final tournaments of the
season next week. The swim team will be at the American School of Bombay and
the boys volleyball team will be at the Overseas School of Colombo. AISC will
be hosting the girls volleyball tournament, which would not be possible without
the support of parents, especially those who are hosting players from other
schools. THANK YOU!

NHS
Diwali Food Drive
The National Honor Society is initiating an effort to help residents of an old-age home called “Little Sisters of Poor” during this Diwali season. NHS wants to support this home, where the elderly population lives without family support and necessary resources to take care of them in their last days.
The National Honor Society is initiating an effort to help residents of an old-age home called “Little Sisters of Poor” during this Diwali season. NHS wants to support this home, where the elderly population lives without family support and necessary resources to take care of them in their last days.
To do
this, the National Honor Society is initiating a food drive which requests that
all students from grade K through 12 to donate at least 1kg of rice, dal, or
vegetable oil in the containers that will be set up in the foyer. The event
will run from 30th September to 11th October. Help us to help the elderly
population.
PSAT reminder
Students who wish to take the
PSAT will be able to do so on Saturday, October 19. There will be no charge for
the test. Ms. Jesudass has explained the process for registration to the
students, which they can do online. Details can also be found on the HS
Guidance Department blog. If you have any questions about the test, don’t
hesitate to contact her or me.
Use of
the iHub
We ask
that parents be sensitive to learning and social spaces while in use by
students before, during, and after school. During the school day, middle
and high school students need a sense of ownership of these spaces, including
the iHub, as places to gather, socialize, and collaborate. As such, we request
that parents be sensitive to the use of the iHub during school hours,
especially right before and right after school and during all breaks, which
happen from 10:00-10:45 and 11:45-1:30. We encourage parents to use the Parent
MC Café during these times.
As always, please don’t hesitate
to contact me if you have any questions or matters you would like to discuss.
Have a great weekend. I hope to
see you at the SAISA games.
