Dear Parents,
Tomorrow will be an exciting day, the culmination of
14 years of schooling for our graduating Seniors. Last night, as the faculty
joined with the Seniors for a farewell dinner, and today, as we rehearsed for
the ceremony, I was reminded of what a balanced, thoughtful and caring group of
young people they are. I was also reminded of the wonderful synergy and
interdependence between student and teacher. That whole, which is far greater than
the sum of the parts, is what defines a school as more than a cluster of
buildings and a set of books.
The Commencement Exercises will take place in the
Theater at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow. If you are planning to attend, please arrive
early as parking and traffic may be a concern. If you are unable to attend, you
can still watch the ceremony on our live stream at High
School Graduation Class of 2013.
Semester
exams – Students in grades 9-11 will start their exams on Monday
morning, June 3. There will be a special exam schedule on those days. You can
see the schedule at Semester
Exam Schedule. Students who do not have an exam during a given exam period
are not required to be in school. However, students who come to school and then
leave may not return to campus.
Last day of school – Friday, June 7 will be the last day of school. We will
hold shortened classes from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. to allow students to say goodbye
to their teachers and to see their semester exam results. At 10:30 we will hold
a Farewell Assembly at which we will bid goodbye to departing students and
faculty members. The assembly will end by 11:00 a.m. and the summer holidays
will begin.
Schedules - Student schedules for next year were distributed to
students yesterday. We have made every effort to meet the course requests of
all students. However, due to the constraints of course, teacher and room
availability and class sizes, certain course combinations may not be available.
If your child finds that an error was made, he or she should go to the guidance
office and make an appointment to see Mrs. Callaway. There is limited time
before the end of the school year and depending on numbers she may not be able
to address all students’ concerns. Please help your child remain
calm in that case. There will also be time in August to handle these
issues, along with requests to changes courses.
Yearbooks TODAY! - The
2012-13 yearbook was unveiled this afternoon. It is getting great reviews from
the high school students. Students and parents can bring receipt to pick up their
copy at the Reception Desk. If you
haven’t purchased your copy yet, go to the Finance Office to make your payment
before we sell out!
The end is near! -
Year-end checkout forms were given to all students last week. These are needed
to ensure that all materials loaned to you by the
school, such as books and locks, are returned. These forms must be completed by
the end of the school day on Thursday, June 6. Fees for lost or damaged
textbooks or locks can be paid in the Finance Office.
Departing
students – Each year some of our students leave the school. Records
from AISC are usually required by the next school. However, it takes us some
time to prepare these records. If you will be leaving the school, please
contact us at least as soon as possible so we can prepare the necessary
documents to make your transition as smooth as possible. Final report cards and
transcripts were made available for 12th Grade students today. Final report
cards will be available for 9th, 10th and 11th grade students by Friday, June 14.
IB and AP News – The IB and AP exams have ended but there is still
news from the IB Coordinator and the AP Coordinator.
