Dear
Parents,
It’s been
another one of those weeks when I look back and wonder at the responsiveness and resilience or our school community. Cyclone Nilam tested our ability to respond to a potential threat
to the safety of our students and their families. Through the calm cooperation of
our students, teachers and parents we were able to smoothly evacuate the campus
in just two hours. The following day we were back in operation with hardly an
indication that anything had happened. This is entirely thanks to our Director
of Business Affairs, Mr. Alankrit Arora, our incredible Facilities and
Maintenance managers, Mr. Ilangovan and Mr. Desmond, and the tireless
Facilities and Maintenance workers. We owe a great thanks to them for making
everything that we do possible.
We had a
very good turnout for the Student-Parent Teacher Conferences today. Many of the
students came to participate and the teachers reported that the students took
an active role in the discussions. We will continue to look for ways to help
our students take a more active role in monitoring their learning.
Our
Model United Nations club has organized a fantast conference this weekend
involving over 400 students from 28 schools. The opening ceremony included
performances from our high school band and choir as well as an inspiring speech
by Dr. Usha Ramanathan of the Center for the Study of Developing Societies. Dr.
Ramanathan shared her long experience with the United Nations and the
International Court of Justice. I was very impressed with the questions that
the MUN delegates asked her and with the clarity and thoughtfulness of her
responses. It was a fantastic opportunity for us all.
Band and Choir Concert – Mr. Stewart, our High School
Band Director, and Mrs. Diane Pritchett, our Middle and High School Choir
Director, would like to extend an invitation to the entire AISC community for
an evening of music on Thursday,
November 8 at 6:00 p.m. in our new Auditorium. I hope you will join us for
this very special event.
Departing students – Each year some of our students
leave the school during the school year, often at the mid-year break. Records
from AISC are usually required by the next school. However, it takes us some
time to prepare these records. If you will be leaving the school, please
contact Ms. Priya Sarath in the Counseling Office at least two weeks prior to
your departure so we can prepare the necessary documents to make your
transition as smooth as possible.
Please
note that for students leaving school at the Winter Break, we will be able to
provide all required documentation, including official report cards for Quarter
1. However, report cards and transcripts showing the Quarter 2 and Semester
grades will not be available until January. We will be happy to forward these
to you at your next destination.
