The big
weekend has arrived! As I write I can hear the cheers for the swimmers in the SAISA
Swim Meet in the background. The meet got off to a great start with our opening
ceremony this morning and the swimmers have been competing all day, not only
for their teams but for themselves as
they stretch to achieve their personal best times in their events. There is a
spirit of lively competition and camaraderie among the swimmers from AISC and
the other schools that is wonderful to see. Remember that you can follow the

Our
volleyball teams are doing well. As of mid-day our boys, playing at AIS –
Dhaka, were doing well. They lost their first match against Lincoln School of
Kathmandu but then came back for wins against the Overseas School of Colombo and
Murree Christian School. The girls are in Kathmandu and are playing well,
winning their first match against AIS – Muscat last evening.
Week Without Walls - Just as soon as the
tournaments end, the high school students and faculty will be leaving for our
first Week Without Walls experience. Our 215 students and 32 faculty members
will be going to 12 different locations throughout India to explore the many
facets of this amazing culture and geography, and to strengthen our ties as a
learning community through our share experiences. Remember that the

There is
always some sense of uncertainty when we travel. Rest assured that the school
has placed the highest priority on the safety and security of our students and
teachers. We have engaged reliable trip organizers and have set clear
expectations for the well-being of everyone on the trips. Our teacher-chaperones
have been trained in first aid and are carrying well-stocked first-aid kits. We have also worked with the Regional
Security Officer at the U.S. Consulate to ensure that conditions at the
locations where our groups will be are secure. Our security personnel will
continue to be in contact with us throughout the week to alert us to any
potential risks.
The school has provided chaperones with cell phones and they will be calling the school each evening. We will send out a message each day to let you know that all is well.

The excitement
among the students and the teachers around the trips was palpable all week. I
am looking forward to all of the tales of adventure that the students and
faculty members will have to share when they get back.
College representatives - At one of the recent parent
meetings I was asked to share information about visits from college representatives
as parents might want to meet them and learn more about the opportunities that
the different colleges and universities provide. Mrs. Callaway has done an
outstanding job of lining up visits and frequently updates her blog with
information about upcoming visits. You can see her updates by following the High School Guidance Department link in the sidebar.
Swim Club – The SAISA swimming season ends
with this week’s tournament, but opportunities to swim are still available.
