Dear Students and Parents,
The pace has certainly picked up around school over the past few days. Our teachers
returned on Wednesday and began settling into their new classrooms while busy
getting their unit and lesson plans ready. Our excitement is building in
anticipation of the arrival of our students and the possibilities that our new
learning spaces afford. The changes that have taken place over the summer have
opened up lots of opportunities for new learning experiences for us all.
New Student Orientation - On Monday we will welcome
new high school students and their parents at an orientation session at 12:00
p.m. in the foyer of the new Performing Arts Center. After an initial introduction, students will
meet with our counselor, Mrs. Kendra Callaway, to learn more about the school
and what to expect on the first day of classes.
Parents will meet with me for information, a brief tour of the school and
an opportunity to have questions answered. The parent orientation will end at
about 12:45 p.m., while the students will continue until 1:30 p.m.
Class Schedules - Student
class schedules will be available on Tuesday morning in the new cafeteria from
8:00 to 8:30 a.m. Students will also receive their lockers numbers and lock
combinations at that time. At 8:30 a.m. we will meet in the new cafeteria for
an assembly after which students will attend all of their Period 1-4 classes.
Students will have the opportunity to request changes during the
first two weeks of school, until August 21. Every effort will be made to accommodate
requests but this may not be possible in all cases, e.g. if the requested classes
are full. Students with requests for schedule changes should make an
appointment to see Mrs. Callaway as soon as possible.
Student Handbooks - During
Period 1 on Tuesday students will receive a copy of the new Student Handbook and the
Community Calendar for 2012-2013. All students and their parents will be asked
to sign and return an acknowledgement that they have received a copy of the Student
Handbook and agree to abide by the policies and procedures of the school. This
should be returned to the High School Office not later than Tuesday, August 14.
New daily schedule - The daily schedule has changed this year. Please note that classes will end at 3:30 p.m. each day. The lunch period has been moved to 11:45-12:30. The new class schedule has been posted in the sidebar.
ID
Cards - All students, parents, faculty and staff are
required to carry a school identification card while on campus. This ID card is
used to open the turnstiles at the gates and to pay for food and drinks at the
cafeteria and the Poolside Store. New students will be given their ID cards on
the first day that they arrive at school. Returning students who have misplaced
their ID cards will be required to sign in and enter the school through the
security office. Their replacement ID cards will be provided within a few days.
Students will not be charged for the first replacement card at the beginning of
the school year. Additional replacement ID cards will incur a charge of INR
1000.
Food
Service - Students have
the option of bringing food from home or purchasing food at school. For those
students who choose to bring food from home, the cafeteria will have several
refrigerators which may be used by students to keep their lunches cool as well
as microwave ovens for use in warming food.
Students who choose to
purchase food at school will have two options: at the new Cafeteria on
the ground floor of the Performing Arts Center and at the Poolside Store. The food will be
prepared on site using fresh ingredients by the Taj Madras Flight Kitchen.
During the first two
weeks of school, students will be able to pay for food and drinks using cash or
their ID card, which will serve as a prepaid card. Students and parents can add
funds to the students’ account by making a payment at any of the cashiers.
There will be two cashiers in the Cafeteria, one in the Poolside Store and two
in the Reception area. The cashiers in the cafeteria and the Poolside Store
will not accept card payments during the morning break or the lunch break. If a
student or parent loses their ID card, it should be reported to the cashier’s office
(in the main Reception area) as soon as possible. The cashier will immediately put
a block on the card to prevent misuse.
The
Cafeteria will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. every day. Before school
breads, pastries, juices and hot drinks will be available. During the lunch
period, full lunches and à la carte items will
be available. During the morning break and after school à la carte items will be sold.
The
Poolside Store will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each school day. At the
store students will be able to purchase à la carte items, snack foods, school supplies and school spirit items such as
T-shirts and mugs.
Parent Meetings - Mark
your calendar for the Back To School Night on Tuesday, August 21 from 6:30
to 9:00 p.m. On that evening you will have an opportunity to meet your child’s
teachers. This year I will meet with parents during
monthly Parent Coffees various aspects of the high school curriculum and co-curricular
programs. The first of these Parents Coffees will be held on Wednesday, August
29 at 8:45 a.m.
I
know I speak for the faculty when I say that we are very much looking forward
to greeting your children on Tuesday and making the 2012-2013 school year the
best ever at AISC. We are also looking forward to meeting you and building
partnerships that will help your child grow into a inquiring, knowledgeable,
caring and reflective young adults.
Sincerely,
